Roosevelt has welcomed my daughter and helped find the best fit for her special needs.

Despite all my years of schooling (through post-graduate school), I have never come across more amazing teachers than the teachers at Roosevelt. They bring passion, and a sense of fun and a sense of seriousness to the learning process. Their assignments are imaginative, challenging and interesting. Nothing rote about the learning process here! The curriculum focuses on everything important for expanding minds and hearts: math, science, writing, art, music, caring for the environment, and treating each other with kindness and respect. Nothing is left out. And then there are the families! The community of families at Roosevelt makes me feel like we live in a small town, rather than smack in the middle of Los Angeles!

I sent my daughter to Roosevelt from Kindergarden through Fifth Grade. She loved it there and had many great memories and she can't wait to go to Lincoln Middle School. The teachers there were amazing and helped her understand everything. She got very good scores on her tests. She has made great friends she'll probably have for life. Rosevelt has made a great impression on her and so have the teachers.

A perfect example of how parents, teachers and administrators can work together to educate our children.

I love Roosevelt Elementary School because the teachers are amazing and the parent involvement is outstanding. Both of these attributes make a huge difference, are excellent examples for our children, and...it really shows!

I love how the school creates a family atomosphere, a sense of belonging, I'm proud to say I'm a Roosevelt Parent. I love how they keep an going communication relationship with Roosevelt families. I get more emails from this school then I do my own friends! I love the security they offer my daughter, that's just as important as education itself. The teachers and staff are amazing. They put so much effort into making the students happy, and therefor making the parents happy. They genuinely care for the students and families, and it shows!

I love that Roosevelt is giving my children a great education for almost not cost. I love that Roosevelt is a community school and there are so many wonderfully involved families who spend so much time and money on all of our children!

Roosevelt is a great school. There is a lot of parent involvement. It is a tight nit community that we are proud to be a part of. We also have wonderful teachers.

When there is a school, such as Roosevelt Elementary School, located in an affluent neighborhood where parents can easily send their children to the numerous highly esteemed private schools in the area, yet choose to send their children to this public school, even with all the cut backs, you know the school has something going on that's very special. There is a feeling of camaraderie, partnership, and cohesiveness among the parents, children, teachers, and administration that makes this school the best environment for learning. This spirit nurtures a high parent participation, great fund raising events, and happy, intelligent children. There is a low teacher turn over rate because most teachers want to work at Roosevelt. I am very proud of this wonderful school and hope you will agree.

I love the ambition and collective spirit of the teachers, the administrators and the active parent volunteer group. I'm proud to have my son spend his formative years at Roosevelt.

It's an amazing place for my child to learn because it's full of happy children, fantastic teachers and caring parents. And the office staff are so friendly as well.

We probably have the best teacher in the Santa Monica Malibu School system - Nicole Mulkern. She does everything possible to help your child excel by positive reinforcement, challenging them with assignments and making sure 'fun' is part of 'fundementals'. I love Roosevelt Elementary and more importantly, my daughter does too. Pala

The teachers are amazing, fun, caring and inspirational. The principal is motivated and caring and wants the best for her students at all times. The PTA has had amazing accomplishments and still continues to impress. And the parents are extremely involved in working with their teachers and the school in providing the most productive, supportive and inspirational school possible.

A huge sense of community make this relatively big elementary school (~600-700 students) feel small and connected. They have put together a great website, which has helped communication throughout the school, not to mention is saving tons of reams of paper by sending out information that used to be on paper flyers!!!

The teachers love their jobs and they make the kids excited to be there. Great sense of community. It has the diversity of a large school, but the warmth of a small school.

Wow! My kids were getting failing grades in Colorado where we used to live. Now that they've moved to this school they have greatly improved. The teachers are so caring and they've helped them find a new zeal for school!

Roosevelt is an excellent school where the children's education is put first. The teachers are excellent and extremely dedicated and the parent involvement, which is key in two arenas--keeping the kids on task and raising money for what used to be considered staples of education such as libraries and music, is significant. Roosevelt is a true team effort and we are proud to be part of that team. There is no better elementary educational opportunity anywhere, public or private.

We moved to Santa Monica one year ago and my daughter has had wonderful teachers who have encouraged and influenced her to do well in her studies. My youngest will be starting Kindergarten here in the fall.

I had two children who attended grades K-5. Overall teaching was hit or miss. Our family experienced some teachers who were benign. The 'old administration' was dedicated to the status quo. Many politically-entrenched, older educators still exert influence and therefore the system is unlikely to change. At best, it will take many years before the system at Roosevelt can change to address the needs of the gifted and brightest as the focus is generally geared toward the well-labeled and 'categorized' special needs child. Bright and high energy children will find this school very frustrating.

Roosevelt is an exceptional learning community. My son has attended 1-5th grade and every teacher is at master's level, the administration is impeccably run. New principal is a great communicator..and will certainly show her impact. My first grader is thrilled with his teacher. I am an involved parent, and find that other parents are equally involved. An exceptional school.

My son went to kindergarten at Roosevelt, and I have to say it was a very negative experience for us. The administration was unyielding and lacking any flexibility. The school is beautiful and clean, but the 'teaching to the tests' is taken to the extreme in the classrooms. The school is probably generally benign for compliant children, but thinking or acting 'outside the box' is not accepted at this school.

Our daughter just spent her first year at Roosevelt. Her 1st grade teacher was unbelievable. All children were kind, friendly, supportive of each other. This is a lovely school with wonderful parent volunteers and lots of initiatives taken both by teachers and parents. Great music program for 3rd graders and + (we can't wait!)... No kid seems to be left behind. Free extra support given to English learners as well as one-on-one tutoring for beginning readers who need a little extra help to catch up with fellow students (most of them are very bright and move on fast!).

My son just graduated 5th grade this week. This school is amazing. He transferred from a private school in second grade with very low scores and abilities. When he came to Roosevelt the principal and staff welcomed him and created a tailored program where he could catch up to the rest of his peers. He graduated at and above grade level after attending for four years. I don't know that any other school would have done such an amazing job. The parent involvement is wonderful and helps to provide the kids with the extras that have been cut by budgets. Also the staff is wonderful. There can be no complaints as far as I am concerned.

Roosevelt Elementary has a wonderfully rich community of teachers, staff, parents and students who work together to create this wonderful place for life-long learners. The school has a diverse student population and test scores among the top of the district. The academic focus is strong, and balanced by caring and talented people who also focus on the arts, athletics, and other activities that enrich the school. The parent groups have overcome the state's lack of school funding with huge community and school events designed to both raise money for the school and increase the opportunity for students and their families to connect with others and have positive interactions throughout the school. There are events at holiday times, a special night at the Santa Monica Pier, bookfairs, and other fun and creative fund raising activities. Roosevelt Elementary is a great place to be a kid, learn, and grow.

Roosevelt is a fantastic school. We have been there for 4 years, and we are 4 for 4 in having had teachers who are outstanding professionals. The principal has been there for 23 years, and it is no accident--he sets high expectations with a human touch, and he combines great expertise with a great ability to work with people. The level of parent involvement is incredible; in particular, the teachers make excellent use of parent volunteers in the classroom, and the students love the many programs for the school community organized under the auspices of the PTA. There is a rich array of available after-school programs, and Roosevelt has a vibrant and active student council. I cannot recommend the school highly enough.

My child attended Roosevelt in the 1st and 2nd grades, and we were shocked at the low quality of education received while there. The school is too big, the teachers were mediocre, and many of the parents are self-serving and care only about their own children, not the general good. This school is also not a good one if your child excels academically. Virtually no individual attention is given to children who show aptitude. There is a 'gifted and talented' program which begins in the 3rd grade that most parents aren't even aware of. The school caters mainly to North of Montana families and is alarmingly indifferent to other parents' concerns. There were behavioral problems in my child's class that weren't handled well. I give this school a very poor review, and parents should note how well the school's test scores fare compared with comparable schools - that tells the truth.

Very good parent involvement, the principal is a caring, compassionate, level-headed man, the teachers are overall very good. Music programs in the school as well as extracirricular activities, pretty good sports program.

Roosevelt Elementary School is an excellent choice for k-5th grade. I have two daughters currently enrolled in 1st grade and 4th grades. They have both been enrolled since Kindergarten, and each year they have both received teachers that were well organized, educated, and were deeply involved in their community. All of their teachers worked well together, and were most interested in teaching student to contribute to their community as well. Roosevelt is known for starting pilot programs that introduce new educational concepts, tools, and programs that address the needs of the students educational well-being, as well as their emotional and social well-being. This demonstrates a willingness to eliminate programs that are not as useful to replace them with programs that are necessary and beneficial. Mentoring programs within student classrooms especially worth mentioning. My third grader currently mentors a 1st grader. All students do. Terrific school--equal or better to a private schools.

Great school, great teachers, great community and mostly... amazing students!!!

The schhol is very good in general, though teacher quality might vary. The separated Kindergarden program is especially well run. The school offers looping opportunities and a well balanced after school program; parent involvement is important and the school is strongly connected (and fed) by its surrounding community. Physical assets are fine but in no way comparable to a Westside private school. The sports program is good but not outstanding, the cafeteria leaves a little bit healthier choices desired.

Very good school. The academic programs, like math were very good. Very Excelled. The extracurricular activities were basically in the parent's hands. They offered gym and a music class but the rest was up to us.

I have been involved in education for virtually my entire adult life. This translates into more than 35 years as a professional educator. I have written 18 textbooks and trade books about educational issues, and I have been a consultant to hundreds of schools. My perspective is broad, and I can assert that Roosevelt School is among the finest schools in the nation. The educational standards are extraordinary. The teachers are highly skilled and accessible. The parents are exceptionally supportive of education. The cultural diversity is a gift to the children. The administration is first-rate. The ambiance in the classrooms, on the playground, and in the hallways is wholesome and respectful. Bullying, teasing, and other forms of hurtful behavior is as far as I can see non-existant. Wealthy children don't flaunt their new Abercrombie & Finch clothes. Parents should be thankfut that their children have the privilege of attending this school.

We are very pleased with Roosevelt Elementary. My 7-yr old son has some special needs and the entire staff, including the principal, school psychologist and his teacher have been excellent about making sure he gets what he needs. The school grounds are clean and well maintained and there is a good deal of parental involvement to help make the school even better than it would otherwise be.
