Will Rogers Elementary School Reviews

Being new to this school last year, my entire family felt welcome to this new community. We love the teachers.

This is a wonderful school environment. The curriculum is innovative and challenging. My children as engaged and challenged. The teachers are the most dedicated group of teachers I have ever met and the administration is very concerned with meeting the needs of all the students. I feel lucky that my students go to this school.

I am dissatisfied with the Will Rogers school. Written communications from my child's teacher are full of grammatical errors and misinformation. Getting an answer to a question is downright impossible and makes it very frustrating to monitor my child's progress. The teacher is very friendly to those that volunteer and do her job for her, but the rest of us get the cold shoulder. This was one of the teachers that everyone told me was 'great.' I'm counting the days until we are on to the next grade. They can't all be like this, can they? On the surface, it looks like a nice place. But scratch just a little bit and you find that there is no substance below that surface. It is no wonder most families in my neighborhood send their kids to private schools.

Will Rogers is an amazing place with a wonderful staff that really go out of their way for the students -- it is a SMART Art school, we have a great science program and science lab, music and art enrichment and lots more -- my children have thrived there -- I would highly recommend Will Rogers -- my two oldest graduated from WIll Rogers and are exceptional students at John Adams -- they were well prepared - my other two are at Rogers and it is amazing how much they learn -- my kindergartener told me all about Caesar Chavez and then all about Martin Luther King and President Lincoln -- the teachers have the kids engaged and learning - it is great!

With three wildly successful children at Will Rogers I truly want to tell new parents: please don't let the test scores fool you! As a Title I school in the district, Will Rogers may not have the same overall scores as others but our students are thriving and achieving tremendous individual success that comes from strong academic rigor. My children's individual scores are very high and we have been very pleased with the work and work ethic they have learned at Rogers. When considering a school, consider that our teachers are among the highest trained and most dedicated, our staff is supremely efficient and as the name says we are a 'community' of learners and parents who work for the entire school.

Will Rogers Learning Community has been a great place for my kids to learn and grow in a safe and loving environment. The principal and the vice-principal are open mineded and willing to implement new ideas that showcase the children's talents and abilities. There are very stron music and art programs a weekly multlevel class called strings where the kids get to deal with life problems and learn how to handle them. After school enrichment classes are affordable and fun. The teaching staff is strong and involved and respect for each other is a strong theme throughout the grades. I feel fortunate that my kids are at Will Rogers.

Will Rogers is a fantastic Learning Community. My child got first rate instruction in K and is very excited about moving onto 1st grade. The teachers are wonderful and dedicated to their students. The additional programs are also very satisfying. The sports for all levels and the extracurricular science and art classes are an added bonus. The administration is top notch. I feel very lucky to have such a wonderful school in my neighborhood.

This school is a neighborhood gem. Kids walk to school and feel connected to the community. Our new principal and assistant principal hold their staff to the highest standards and in turn, hold the students to high standards of achievement. Extracurricular activities include an amazing Chess Club, Science classes, performance based classes and sports. The PTA is very active and there is absolute cooperation from the administration and staff. There is a genuine team effort for the kids.

This gem of a neighborhood school is lucky to have gifted principal, highly trained staff and such a diverse population. Academic rigor is apparent in the classrooms and all the programs, like Read-a-thon, parent education nights, the music and visual art program, and significant and continuous teacher training and peer support. Families feel welcome to participate in the classroom, in community events, in enrichment activities and in site governance. The staff is particularly open to parent involvement. There is a sense of joy and appreciation of children and the importance of their education. My two older children entered high school well prepared and glad that they attended Rogers.

This school is special to our family. It has a wonderful and caring new principal, the teachers my children have had are just the same. The PTS is great. You feel right at home at this school, especially when you volunteer and become involved. They have a nice music program. Sports programs are also a plus. The only thing I wish is that they had a university prep program (Like L.A. has the USC program in elem. schools), a stronger program for gifted and talented students. I love that the teachers, principal, and staff always listen to the children and treat them with respect! Plus it's in a nice and calm neighborhood, and right next to the Middle School.

Level of parent involvement is great by about half of the school. Teachers are excellent!

Good neighborhood school. Now 4th and 5th graders have only 20 students in a class and 4th grade teachers go to 5th grade with the same students.

This school academically challenges your average learner. The teachers are very approachable and patient with the students. The principal knows each child by name. The parents are very active within the school. They offer exciting programs such as the Read-a-thon and the Science Club.

I found the Kindergarten program mediocre. I thought Santa Monica public schools were supposed to be really good. I found the insruction uninspired and somewhat cold with little regard for my son as an individual.

What we love the most about Will Rogers are the teachers. They are experienced, kind and have inspired especially my daughter to reach a little higher than she expected. The Arts & Music programs are awesome! We greatly appreciate that they even exist thanks to the PTA. It's more than a school - it's a learning community!

The leaders of the school are continually striving to find methods that address all the diversity issues a school like Will Rogers has. Some strengths are weekly meetings of lower graders with upper graders working on social topics such as conflict resolution, manners, etc. We have a fantastic visual art program, as well as incredible music programs that culminate in extremely impressive concerts.(I've attended the vocal concerts).

Rogers is a great school. My children love it. The teachers are great. The school is what you would call a family affair.
