Loma Alta Elementary School Reviews

I have been teaching at Loma Alta for over 10 years and have witnessed many changes - some good and some bad. Overall, Loma Alta is a great school providing a multitude of opportunities for children no matter their ability. We have an amazing Inclusive school that has a very diverse population. Over the past couple of years we have offered music programs both choral and instrumental, performing arts, physical education, Amory for the Arts programs and swimming at the Rose Bowl Aquatics. Student academic time is structed so the moring focus in on Language Arts for a 1.5 -2 hours uninterupted time block. Reading, Math Science and Social Studies are part of the daily curriculum. The one thing that would help Loma Alta would be more parental involvement which always increases student improvement and participation.

As a new parent of Loma Alta Elementary I had big expectations and I am pleased to inform that the curriculum and the teachers were committed to excellence. However, I was very disappointed with the lack of parent support. Because my children are important to me I am committed to reaching out to parents to unite and make Loma ALta a strong community. I am very optimistic about the future of our school!!

The academic program is typical of that of other PUSD schools, though the new principal is trying to push for more. There was limited PE and music was only optional. More parent participation on a consistent basis would help the school. There seems to be a clique amongst parents who are involved.

This was a tough year for Loma Alta, as we had 3 principals and were put on the chopping block in May. Despite all of the confusion and chaos, the community of teachers and parents stood together and saved the school. A great deal of effort to revamp the playground was put forth by the last, and now permanent principal, so children are more occupied. There were not that many fights this year, and a few incidences of graffiti. The curriculum is the standard- Open Court Reading and Saxon Math and very few teachers did much with Science or Social Studies. There was a voluntary music program offered for 3rd-6th graders as well as PE, though the latter seemed to suffer due to a constantly absent teacher. The only after school program is Pasadena LEARNS, which my child did not participate in. I think this school will make great strides.
