Valley View Elementary School Reviews

The Valley View is the smallest best school in LA with fantastic teachers and a wonderful administration. Both my kids love going to school! :)

I love Valley View because it is filled with good people. From Mr. Klein (Principal) who bring experience and knowledge and leadership to the teachers who care to the staff who keep our school running well with a great attitude. Then there are the parents--- they rock. They are what we want our kids to grow up to be, smart, thoughtful, ambitious, talented and hard working. Our parents make this school stand out. They are instrumental in funding the schools' extracurricular activities and they bring their resources as well. Our parents care about each other's kids as if they were their own. We pick each other's kids up and have become a close knit family. Valley View is the best because of it's beautiful spirit.

I love Valley View because it is the biggest little school I have ever known. It sets itself apart from other schools just by location alone. Sitting up & looking over the city. The teachers & LA Best people are great. I feel safe with knowing they will teach & look after my child with great responsibility knowledge.

Valley View Elementary is a fabulous school - great teachers, a caring principal, and a closely-knit community of parents that are involved at the school. We are truly blessed to have our daughter there!

I have two children who have attended Valley View since kindergarten, the oldest is now in 9th grade and the youngest is in the 5th grade. We have had a wonderful experience at Valley View. The parent participation is incredible. The administration, teachers and staff are 100% committed to providing a quality education to our children. I highly recommend this great little gem of a school.

I love the small school. My son has enjoyed his time at Valley View. The teachers, principal and staff are amazing. It is a public school with a private school atmosphere.

This school is one of the most wonderful elementary schools around. anywhere in the USA. We are so fortunate to be at Valley View!!

This school is the greatest. We have the joyful experience to bring the childred here. I I know it is the safest.school.

Valley View is such a wonderful school due to the participation and constant efforts of our incredible PTA! They constantly raise money to give the kids so much more than is normally offered a public school. When I describe Valley View I say it's like a public 'private' school. Everyone is very involved and the quality of the teachers is truly remarkable. I'm so glad my son goes there!

I have two children enrolled at Valley View & each one is convinced that they have the best teacher. It's a wonderful school, with caring teachers & staff. I recommend this school highly!

It's the kind of school where the ladies in the office know all the kids by name and the PTA spends the money they raise to supplement the librarian's income so they can keep her full time to provide support to her and the kid's education. It's the little school that could.

My son just started Valley View this year for kindergarten and since day one he's been excited about his school and his class. He loves to tell me what they learn in class, what he's had for lunch and let's me know constantly which days are P.E., dance, library visits and all the wonderful extra programs they get to experience. All that and it's only been a month. The PTA and Parents are the greatest group of people and have been so nice and friendly since the first day. Principal Klein is so involved and makes a point to get to know the parents and kids. I just love this school and look forward to the next six years my son will get to be here.

We are new in the school this year. I have a 3rd and a 5th grader. Every afternoon when I pick them up, I always ask them about their day and every day they would talk about good things about the school which I am very greatful that we moved here. Thanks Valley View.

The best little school in LA! What a great school. The atmosphere is so warm and friendly. The teachers are very caring and dedicated. The parents are very involved. The principal Mr. Klein really cares about all of the children and faculty. Best of all the API scores improved greatly last year!! I fell very lucky to have found this school.

It really is 'the little school that could'. The staff and teachers are great. And, the parents really care. We are so lucky to have this school.

It gives you the feeling of community and family in a city where that's not always easy to find. The principal and staff know the name and face of every child at the school.

We have an amazing group of parents who volunteer endlessly, the principal and staff work hard to create an atmosphere of care and well being for our children. There is a real feeling of family in our small little gem of a school.

It's a amazing little school with the most outstanding and caring teachers, staff members and principle. The PTA puts on fun ways to collect for the school and this would bring us closer to our school goal.

I love the way we are all family. PTA works hard for the kids to have education field trips. The principle, teachers, and staff all do their part for the future of our kids.

The principal of this school really rocks, when my child has a problem in understanding his own behaviorial limits Mr Klein is there to talk him through it. He is clear on his expectations and doesn't talk down to the kids. My son says he enjoys his meetings with Mr. Klein. Most of the teachers have a history at the school so they are working together as a team and know all the kids. The physical location is beautiful too because there are trees surrounding the school. The parent body is also extremely friendly and hard working, to get the students the most out of the school experience by raising money for enrichment and field trips.

It is small and it has a family feeling. People care about each other and that makes this school a great place for children to learn.

Valley View is and amazing school that is tucked away in the hills of Hollywood. It is quickly becoming one the most sought after schools in district. The teachers and parents make this an amazing community school and help to make all feel welcome.

What a sweet, special school. This is our first year, and I was a little nervous, but I've been utterly amazed. Our teacher is wonderful, as is the other K teacher, and the rest of the (tiny) staff seems great. It's such a small place -- only 210 students in K-6 -- that it really feels like community. It's true that it's still LAUSD and big budget cuts are coming, but hopefully the school's dedicated professional staff, and the organized PTA, will keep things running strong. Also, the principal, Mr. Klein, is a gem.

I love this school! My daughter had a horrible kindergarten experience at a previous school,so when we moved to L.A. I was dreading her 1st grade year. God Bless Valley View Elementary! My daughter has ADHD and is very behind in academics (thanks to her K teacher casting her aside) and has had behavioral issues( before ADHD diagnosis and treatment). Needless to say we are struggling to get her caught up in school. Valley View's staff has been exceptional! So nice, caring and helpful. The principal is so wonderful and involved as are the staff. They have made a huge effort to help my daughter and have been supportive. This is also a very small school which allows the staff a little more flexibility to give students extra attention if they need it. Gosh I just can't say enough about this school. Parents are very involved too. Truly LAUSD's Gem!

this school is getting better and better. there are some wonderful teachers and each year it is attracting more motivated parents. there is a great PTA that funds focusfish, field trips, workshops, etc. also, it's nice and small which helps create a great community atmosphere.

Valley View has finally become a community of parents and staff who work together in the best interest of the children without adult ego interference.
This review was posted by a parent.

Valley View has a lot of positives. It is in a beautiful hillside setting. It is a small school with a family spirit. No student gets lost in the shuffle here because the staff gets to know you and your siblings. Former students bring their children back here. The staff is a mixture of experienced veterans and newer teachers. Its Arts Prototype Program brings in art, drama, and dance teachers. PTA has funded a physical education program and worked to make sure all grade levels benefit from field trips. A core group of parents, (always in need of more help), coordinate a fall festival and talent show, family reader events, book fairs, cultural assemblies, science workshops and numerous other activities that contribute to the unique community feeling in the school. The school is not perfect but it certainly is a shining example of the 'little engine that could.'

My daughter has been at Valley View Elementary since Kindergarten. She is in the 6th grade. This an excellent school. Administrator, Teachers, and Staff work collaborative with the students. My daughter's learning experience has been very instructional and pleasing. All of my daughter's teacher always work together with the students and parents. The parent involvement is excellent. There are different activities the children have on a weekly basis. I have nothing negative to say of Valley View.

I have two children at Valley View. This is a great school. The teachers know the children individually and work diligently with the students. The new principal, Mr. Klein, is a very understanding person who addresses each children needs. The parent involvement at this school is very strong. The principal and PTA work collaborative on all events and activities.

Since the departure of Ms. William, Valley View has not been the same. The school is being run by the PTA while the Principal cannot get it together to remember who you or your children are. Definitely don't think your concerns will be heard. Valley View s motto, 'I See Nothing'.

Being parents of children that has been enrolled here for 4 years, we are greatly disappointed at it's decline. Because they are one of the smallest schools, they typically scrape the 'bottom of the barrel' and the school has suffered greatly as a result. We are pulling our children out at the end of this year.

I'm British and just moved to LA and sent my son here. Before, he was at an english private school and was underperforming, here he's doing great! He's really keen to get into school in the morning and I'm defo sending my daughter here next year. The enrollment process was slow, so this needs improving, but the sports is fab.

I had four children in this school from 1998 until 2004. This is a great school. Small size means everyone knows each other. Teachers stay and know the kids and parents as all grow. PTA very into art, dance, music. Yearly talent show very impresive. Individual children's needs were always well addressed by principal and teachers. The principal Ms Williams always encouraged the children to do their best and learn from their mistakes.

This school is getting better every year-parental and community involvement increasing. Teachers are great

Valley View is the second smallest school in LAUSD, capacity 300 students with only 220 currently enrolled. It is an Arts Protoype school with full integration of the arts & music in the curriculum, all of which was brought to the school by the parents and principal. School scores do not truly reflect what is going on in a school especially one as small as this, and should not be used as a barometer of whether or not you should bring your child there. It is becoming a 'neighborhood' school slowly as people find out what a true jewel this school is, nestled in the Hollywood Hills overlooking the Hollywood Freeway. Of the current school population at least half of the people who bring their children there are from outside the immediate community and are thrilled to be there, they are NO bussed in children.

Valley View is a school with rising test scores, but as of yet not as much community or parent involvement as we would like to see. It is a small school and a great community, and I think this is unique to the LAUSD experience. Students, teachers and parents know each other in a way that makes students more comfortable and confident on campus.

Tiny size gives this school a very close knit community atmosphere. Nice cheerful campus. Facilities are average in terms of space, playground, computers, auditorium, etc, but programmin is surprisingly rich--lots of art here--Arts Prototype school, complemented by additional arts funded by parent group. Great PE program-very progressive and varied. teachers are well equipt to handle new teaching techniques and motivated. New SAS program in development seems to bring higher level expectations. Parents are happy at this school-safe environment and lots of fun for kids-many events and field trips added. Parental involvement is constant if not large in force. Mix of families and students very unique.

This September will begin my child s third year at Valley View. We both thoroughly enjoyed her first year there as a 1st grader. The teacher was 'wonderful'. She was very in tuned to the abilities (strengths and weaknesses) of her students. She would uplift them in their weak areas and praise their strong suits. Her 2nd year (grade 2) started out the same as first and I as a parent was delighted. But, something went wrong approximately mid-year. We had to fight tooth and nail to keep her from being put unnecessarily in remedial classes. I could not figure out why this was happening since the child is very bright. It is my hope that this year (grade 3) will be an academic success as well as 'kid friendly'.

Our children attend Valley View and we are extremely happy with their education. The school has less than 250 students, K through 6th, which is really unique in a Los Angeles public school and means that everyone feels like part of one big family. The other parents are very friendly and everyone seems keen to contribute what time, expertise or energy they have in order to enrich the children's school day. The level of teaching is excellent and as well as the usual school work, our children participate in art, music, drama, dance, science and wonderful, well thought out field trips, much of which is made possible through funds raised by the PTA. The principal, Mrs. Williams, knows every child (and most parents!) by name. Her wealth of experience shines through and she is firm but kind with the children. The students love and respect her and she greets the parents like old friends. She is very accessible and is terrific at listening to problems and finding a solution. The fact that Valley View is multicultural means our children have friends from many varied ethnicities and backgrounds, including, as recent immigrants, their own part of the World, and whenever parents are asked to donate food for a carnival or celebration, you can be sure of a delicious and varied mix of dishes. The school encourages kindness, good manners and thoughtfulness for others, whether they are students, the local community or people in other countries. Recently the children were all clamoring to donate their gently used toys to an orphanage in Vietnam when they learnt that one of their teachers gave up many of her vacations to work at the orphanage and could take their gifts with her on her next trip. We would suggest that if you are thinking of sending your child to a private school, think again, invest instead into the community and enjoy the caring, enriching environment of a wonderful local public school. P.S. Don t tell too many people or LA s best kept secret will be out!

We could not be happier with the choice we made to send our son to Valley View. We looked at private schools extensively, however after meeting the principal and kindergarden teacher we made the Valley View decision. My friends are envious of the excellent repore my son has with his teacher and also the quality of the after school care. My son is involved with sports, the arts and students from other grades. I feel good about this intimate school where the nice ladies in the office know my son (and me) by name. Good job Valley View.

Wonderful school. Ms Williams is the best principal I have ever met, she cars about the students and the students all love and respect her. The kids get educational field trips. Parents love to get involved, and everything is so appreciated, it feels good to help out. I would say that Valley View is the best of the best!
