I must say that Serrania is one of the greatsest school in the state. The students do great and the teachers a fabulous, despite an opresive working environment that is glad-handed by the principal and her assistant.

All the parents receivered their test scores in the mail and we are so happy with the instruction and administration at SES this year and last year. What a pleasure to be at SES, a 2000 California Distinguished School.

I have had 2 children culminate Serrania and have to agree the teachers are great. I have a kindergardner going into 1st and have to say the serrania teachers have done my children proud! An Awesome 5th grade team what a way to end your elementary years All of my children had Mrs. Kerr for K and she is great also you have to keep an open mind all schools like any business go through growing pains and we make the best decisions for the children not the parent. This school has a pheounominal booster club that adds so many wonderful assets to the school I was fotunate enough to be a member and run it for a few years serranias staff did my children more than justice great staff!!!

I am very glad we chose Serrania for my kindergartner last year. We won the open enrollment lottery in 6 Woodland Hills schools, and when a spot opened up for a few children through the child care program, we rushed to Serrania and have not regretted once. I think Serrania's staff, both administration and teachers, is great! It is very clear that they care about the kids and their education. My daughter loves the school and can't wait to start the new school year as a 1st grader in the School for Advanced Studies 'SAS' program. I would recommend Serrania to anyone who has a choice in what school to send his/her child.

Too much demand on students regarding academics. There is no time to be just a kid!

Serrania was an amazing program up until this last school year. The new principal clearly wants no input from the staff or parents. Serrania has always been a unique community where staff and parents work together as a team to make the school a safe and warm learning environment. It saddens me to see that this is no longer the school that my children graduated from. I am just grateful that I am no long a part of this community. STAY AWAY! If you can. While the staff is still amazing the principal is not qualified and has the staff so upset that the feel of the school has changed. How very sad.

Serrania keeps getting better. I am so pleased with the positive atmosphere. The new principal has made it a better place. Our children are receiving a well rounded education.

Serrania has provided a wonderful education for my child. She is excited to go to school every day. The teachers and staff are terrific. The principal and assistant principal have been a great team this year - very organized and have a calming effect on the school.

The new principal is an assest to Serrania ES. She is a true leader. She and the vice principal are an A-1 team. They have brought postive changes to Serrania.

The new principal and kinda-new assistant principal will be fine. Theye are both a departure from what was here in the past; and welcome change. They care about students and staff and parents. HG

This school really hits all the important things needed in a great school. The teacher s care about the students, the principal takes an active interest in each child to help them achieve success inside and outside the classroom, and the classroom instruction is superior to my daughters last LAUSD elementary school. The other highly rated K-5 valley school is well known for the arts and academic achievement but, Serrania's SAS class wins hands down for teaching critical thinking skills, creative writing, science and math. We permitted into Serrania and couldn't be happier. Kudos to the great teachers and staff at Serrania. MZ

Excellent school for both gifted children as well as special needs. Teachers are exceptional, the principal truly cares about the children. Serrania is an 'arts prototype' school exposing children to all types of arts, music, chorus, drama, mine, dance, origami, etc. and all within the regular school day. In additional many after school programs to choose from. Differinated teaching for gifted children is excellent with most of the teachers having 20+ years of teaching experience. The only thing I would like to see improve is the level of parent support. Many a dedicated, but it seems the rest leave it up to a few. Great school overall!

This is my child's second year at Serrania Avenue Elementary and she loves it! After having her Kindergarten teacher as a role model she now declares she wants to be a teacher! It is a charming neighborhood school with beautiful new murals and gardens. It is steadily increasing parent involvement and offers many opportunities to get involved with the school and your child. My younger children can't wait to be old enough to enroll!

Serrania really let my child down. Watch out! Big talkers and bad teachers. They gave the worst to my child who needed the most. They place the best teachers with the gifted kids. Wish I'd left long ago.

Teachers are burned out! There is too much yelling in the classroom as a technique for discipline by the teachers. More nurturing needs to go on in the upper grade level.

All three of my children have gone to Serrania. This school just gets better and better through the years. The teachers are excellent! The parent involvement is incredible. I highly recommend this school!

I was a bit worried about sending my child to an LAUSD school (Taft nearby scares me) and had heard Woodland Hills Elementary (aka Bootcamp)would have been the preferred school, but have been absolutely thrilled. My daughter's kindergarten teacher (Mrs. Austin) is amazing and the most effective yet nurturning teacher we have come across. My daughter looks forward to school each and every day and the other kids in her class along with their parents have added to our positive experience. The principal is very enthusiastic and warm, afterschool care has been a wonderful...absolutely no complaints. I'd choose this school over Private School anyday, and we've tried a couple in the area.

A great school. The staff is hard working and really focused on instruction. Great parent support, and a nice clean, well equipt campus.

My daughter went to this school from k-3rd grade. I would say it is an mediocre school with average teachers. The office staff is efficient, but not at all friendly. They have a decent after school program up to 6pm, but costly.

Serrania has been a wonderful school for my son. The teachers, administrators and office staff are caring and very professional. They truly care about the students and their families.

I have three children in Serrania. All of my children had excellent kindergarden teachers (Stane, Kerr, Sanchez). We had been happy with the 1-4 teachers as well. There are some teachers that really excel. The parent participation is excellent at this school, and is appreciated by the staff. The principal is usually very easy to find and talk with, and is very friendly. The front office staff are all very helpful and friendly.

I like the school for my 4th grader whi is an excellant student. If your son/daughter does not excel in school, this is not the school for you. They have high standards and expect the students to abide to them.

This school has challenged my children to their full potential. Incredible SAS programs. I must say Serrania is one of the top schools. I'm very impressed their Principals Mrs. Babbit and Mrs. Laskin. The teachers are very firm but caring. I am a parent who appreciates that.

Serrania has fantastic leadership! A rare appreciation for the importance of art, science, music, culture, etc.. My child entered kindergarten this year. She loves her teacher, and I could not be more satisfied.

Serrania is a excellent elementary school in the west valley area. Serrania have many after school activities to choose from from music, drama to art and dance classes. The parents of Serrania are very active with the school and pta meetings.

Academic programs good. Teachers are great! Limited availability of extracurricular activities. There is a high level of parental involvement. Administration is very accessible, friendly, and helpful. Playground facilities need improvement. The school is older and needs to be updated. Children enjoy Serrania Avenue and seem to get a good elementary school education.

I have had 2 children attend Serrania. They both did well. My 2nd grader is still there. The teachers were always caring and supportive. I had regular access to speak with the teachers when I was able. The principal was a bit difficult, but had her priorities to see the school grow. My children were and are very happy there. They participated in many afterschool activities like homework club, chess club, dance and tennis. The school is very safe, and the afterschool KIDCARE program was well run. I wouldn't recommend it for the holiday/summer though it was too boring for the kids. 5th grade was a very enriched year... many field trips and extra activities.

I am a former student of Serrania Avenue Elementry. Serrania is a beautiful campus with great teachers. I began from Kindergarten all the way to fifth grade. I grew up in that school with pride.

The 'new' principal has re-invigorated the school! She is one of the hardest working persons I have ever come across. The principal lives for the children at Serrania. The new vice-principal is a terrific support mechanism in all capacities. The campus looks a thousand times better than two years ago (cleaner, new paint, 45 new trees), test scores are up, teachers attitudes are better! There are increased fun, extra-curricular programs and academic assistance. Parent participation has increased we just had our first annual dinner/dance last Autumn as well. Most importantly, my fourth grader loves his teacher and can't wait to go to school in the morning!

I took my son out of a private school and brought him to Serrania and couldn't be happier. His teacher is wonderful and cares about every student. The principal is involved and the students really like her. So far, our experience is that it's a wonderful environment!
