Rosewood is diverse ethnically and socio-economically. The teachers are involved and dedicated and there is a strong group of parents working hard to provide what the district is not. We have a vocal music teacher, a PE coach, and a growing edible garden. Our new principal is doing amazing things and has a great vision for the future, including a gifted program and a 6th grade.

The new principal is wonderful. She has instituted many new programs that are invigorating the school. She has high aspirations for Rosewood, and she is putting a lot of time and energy into the betterment of the school. The teachers, parent association, and after-care are excellent.

This school is very up to date and resourcesful. tey cover every detail of education, resources, activities, educationlal opportunities you can think of and more. They are very safe and no stranger gets in, no visitor goes unnoticed and that makes me feel secure that my boys are safe and in a good learning environment. The teachers are extremly patient and very kind and loving. The Principal and Vice Principal are never surprised when you tell them about what's going on, they already know. The office staff act like your a good friend of theirs and do all that they can to help. Te nurse is on top of all issues andd takes time needed in each situation. We are so blessed to be here.

Rosewood Elementary provides the dedication and leadership by their educatiors to facilitate successful students. Students are bright, helpful, responsible, caring, and honest. These qualities along with so much more make our children grow and learn to be remarkable young adults.

The teachers definitely make Rosewood a great school. We have a direct line of communication to my daughter's teacher. She has already identified my daughter's strengths and had offered more challenging work to meet those needs. So far, we are very happy with how first grade has progressed and hope to stay enrolled through the sixth grade (which the school is working to add)!

My son has received an excellent start to his school career, starting last year with kindergarten. I look forward to his continuing Rosewood and only wish he could be there until college!

Great parent participation. Teachers really care for and know the students. The office is exceptional at navigating the waters for maximum support from our ever dwindling county & state resources. Test scores are consistently high. There is great respect among a diverse group. Children stay in the school throughout the 6 years and long lasting friendships are formed. I recommend Rosewood Elementary wholeheartedly!

Our school has fantastic teachers and a pleasent and dedicated staff ,our new principle is a wonderful energetic women who fights for our children in order to give them the best education possible. The diversity of L.A. is reflected in the student population in our school. My daughter is thrilled to go to school every day.

Rosewood is a wonderful public school full of diversity with high expectations and aspirations for all children. Our API is 844 we compete with the best private/charter schools in West Hollywood.

This is my first year at Rosewood and I can say without hesitation, this is one of the best elementay schools in LAUSD. The Principal Mrs. Crowder is absolutely wonderful, the parent involvement is great and the diversity of awesome. I can say without a doubt the Rosewood Elementary get a soild 10!!!

My daughter loves Rosewood! It's a very diverse school (which I love) and the parents are super active. You get a great sense of community when you participate in the various activities and it's been a wonderful experience for us.

My son just finished Kindergarten at Rosewood, his teacher was Mrs. Aiochi. We had a terrific experience there. We are sad to hear that Aiochi will be moving to 5th graders next year, and the Prinipal is retiring as well. We hope the budget cuts don't take away from the great eduaction going on there. The afterschool program Star is a good program as well.

I was fortunate enough to find this school last year as I searched out good schools for my son who was entering Kindergarten. I enrolled my son, not knowing too much about the school, just what I could find at sites like this. Well, I as so glad I found this school. It is has a diverse population, good test schools, supportive parents, and dedicated staff. I am always recommending Rosewood to others.

We love Rosewood Elementary! We tried out a new 'charter' school and regret that decision whole heartedly. Should have stuck with Rosewood! The school population is so well rounded... it is a melting pot of wonderful kids and families. Our son is so happy here and looks forward to school every day! The teachers are great and the principal is dedicated. The kids have art, drama, dance, P.E.! We consider ourselves very lucky to be a part of this school.

My daughter attended Catholic School until she needed to attend second grade. I was fortunate enough to hear about this school. So far my husband and I are well pleased. The curriculum has surpassed many of the Catholic Schools we have had her attend in an effort to get her the best education with moral and ethical values included. Of course liek all things their is room for improvement. The principal is highly involved and the teachers are great at what they do. They work hard to give the children the opportunity to get a well rounded curriculum. My daughter also attends the star program and she loves it. It ranges to be about $400 per month and is well worth it. The star program offers more than many other programs in the area. The school may wish to consider implementing a PE program with a curriculum which includes uniforms.

I have a non-verbal autistic son. Rosewood is a RARE find, it integrates disabled students so naturally into the environment that to be a typical student is a gift. This school employees the most exceptional teachers in Los Angeles. For anyone who is lucky enough to attend Rosewood , they are in for a great education, and a life of understanding.

The after school program is very complete, sports, academics, art, etc. My sons loves it!

Any school is only as good as it's teachers and great teachers make Rosewood Elementary a great school. That's why I love the Principle, she is very dedicated and involved with the school. The 'Friends of Rosewood' parent organization meets monthly and is a great place to talk to Principle, teachers and other parents. The afterschool program, STAR, has a veriety of great classes like: chess, magic, rockband, dancing, literacy, painting etc.. My son will be in second grade this fall and I've been very happy with Rosewood.

Generally average. Almost zero PE program. STAR enrichment programs are expensive and provided extremely embarrassing results over the past 2 years. STAR after school program is excellent, but expensive, as are the STAR summer care options. Overall better than some local Hollywood alternatives, but considering the Principal's attitude, the swelling class sizes and expensive after-care options.....there's a lot of room for improvement.

The school is great compared to other LAUSD elementary schools it small and a close communtiy school. There special education is not that great because they have a new teacher and in my opinion 1st time teacher from other career fields shouldn't start out teaching kids with various learning disabiliies.

Verity of nationalities. Good teachers.
This review was posted by a parent.

Average on all accounts. Academically the school would do a lot better if the teachers teamed up within grade levels to elimate the huge differences from one class to the next. The best thing about the school is the Friends of Rosewood. Keep up the good work!

The principal and staff are serious about education as well as good health at Rosewood. Rosewood provides a safe environment for your child. My son now attends Rosewood and is very happy there. There is aloso a great Beyond the Bell after school program that leaves me worry free while I'm at work.

Our children have progressed very nicely at Rosewood. The teachers have proved to pay attention to the children and monitor their progress, and I believe the quality of the education they're getting to be on a par with the best schools in LA. We've found the Principal to be very open to new ideas as long as you don't try talking with her about something important while her attention needs to be focused elsewhere. Timing! The diversity of the student body was very important to us in choosing Rosewood, and our children have had good exposure to many different cultures. The Friends of Rosewood parent organization is extremely dedicated and active. Wish more parents would take advantage of the many invitations to join (we disagree with the parent who gives the group a D-), as the same parents have a heavy responsibility to keep funding going. We are very happy here.

I used to think that this school was a great school until my son went into the fourth grade. Then he had a new teacher, that didn't really teach but the only way I could change the teacher , was change the school (because of his learning disability). So in fifth grade thats what he did. The other school turned out to be totally better than rosewood, they gave him books and he learned more things he needed to know, ie. multiplication. But previous to the fourth grade, he had great teachers. I just don't know what happen.

Ask about the STAR program if you are trying to get in under open enrollment. Active parents. Beautiful campus.

We feel lucky to be in this 'United Nations' of an elementary school. The Principle is very dedicated and involved. The 'Friends of Rosewood' parent organization meets monthly and is a wonderful place to get to know a terrific group of parents. If you are in or out of the neighborhood I would seriously consider giving it a chance. The overall school scores are not as high as some other local schools due to the diversity of the children; check with the principle's office to learn more about how the school is being scored, what issues are being addressed, etc. The afterschool program, STAR, gives working parents a safe, fun and educational place to leave their children. The cost is not cheap, but there are scholarships for STAR. My son is in second grade and we have been very happy at Rosewood.

My daughter has been at Rosewood since the 4th grade (she's currently in the 5th). During her 4th grade year, she had 4 different teachers! Somehow I still believe she managed to learn consistently. This year I've become disappointed and I'm very happy that she's moving on to middle school. I find the principal good at making appearances and talking efficiently, but the school could be making bounds. At the most important times, she's callous and aloof. My daughter gets plenty of homework that does not reinforce the days activities or check for understanding...but only eats up time. Projects are assigned without rubrics or criteria charts. Rosewood has great potential but falls short. Friends of Rosewood (Parent Group) is it's crowning achievement and is to be commended. Great P.E. teacher (Coach Cliff) as well.

A very good school. Caring teachers and administrators. Parent involvement is very high. Many extracurricular activities available, although hard for kids that don't live in the neighborhood, but this is a District failure, not the school's. Very happy of having my kids attend this school.

Rosewood Avenue Elementary School is a great school nestled on the border of Los Angeles and West Hollywood. The population is made up of a very diverse student and faculty body. Rosewood has many additional resources not offered in many public schools: including, physical education, library, and computer lab. The students are exposed to art, dance, music, and the many cultures of the world. Janet Chapman and Kerry Kehrley do a superb job running the school, they keep an open door to all parents and staff. In addition to the staff, Rosewood receives numerous volunteers from various organizations. My daughters (grades kindergarten and third) are very happy and feel safe. Rosewood Avenue Elementary School is the best school in Los Angeles.

Very high parent involvement. Good music and Physcial education programs. Good caring and educated teachers. Has on campus Star education before and after care which is very structured and good, but expensive.

My daughter went their until 2nd grade. Kinder was Awesome. Mrs. Aochi is the best. In second grade my daughter was put in a class where the teacher told me that she was very slow and would never achieve success in school, and that she had an attitude problem. She figured all this out in 1 day. My daughter was a young 2nd grader. A september baby. She was and still is imaginative and had a hard time when she was overwhelmed or intimidated. The principal doesn't care how this teacher judges or treats children that she thinks are not worth her effort. I immediately took my daughter out of the school. She is now in the 5th grade and is at a much more academically challenging private school and has made the honor roll since 3rd grade. She reads at a high school reading level. Glad I left.

My son has been at Rosewood for four years and each year he has a completely different group of kids in his class and since they can only play with their own class at recess and lunchtime, it's very disappointing for me that he doesn't get an opportunity to be in classes with his friends from our neighborhood. The teachers are terrific!I give it an A+ for the quality of the academic programs. The homework is minimal so you have time for after school activies. Classrooms clean, organized, and well stocked. Extracurricular activities are provided by the money raised by the parents. Over all the parents and kids are not very friendly. There's no social life at all.I give it a D- for parent involvement. The principal and vice principle are quite friendly.
