Roscomare Road Elementary School Reviews

We are just finishing Kindergarten at Roscomare Road and have found it to be a wonderful community school. The teachers are passionate about what they do and we have met so many local families who genuinely care about the school. The school teaches to the brightest children and your child will be adequately challenged. A lot of hard work required from the children and a lot of volunteering expectations of the parents. Everyone is happy to do their best to help Roscomare continue to be one of the best elementary schools in LAUSD.

I have three kids in this school. I have nothing but great things to say about it. The teachers, staff and the principal are all fantastic. If only there would be a similar middle school and/or high school available for our kids, then I would die a happy man. But we can't have everything. I am hopeful that LAUSD will someday do something about the aftermath of Roscomare. They have gotten it right with this school. Why can't they improve the middle schools and high schools in this area as well?

Like a private school without the tuition. It is a small commuity where the teachers and principal know your child. The principal is usally accessible and the kids are learning as much, if not more, than at neighboring private schools. Save your $ for middle & high school tuition.

My only complaint is the heavy load of homework. The prinicipal is readily available to meet with any parent at anytime. Plus, the kids like her too!

If I can do it over again, I would not send my child to this school. The atmosphere is cold, parents are very unfriendly. There is no community among the children. The principal is not a strong leader and is very frequently not seen. The teachers however, are great and that is the only saving grace for this school.

We really enjoy every single day of being at Roscomare. The kids are great. Parents are supportive of the school. I am very happy that kids are able to associate with other kids in the same community. Most of the parents that I know really spend time to nurture their kids.

My two boys enjoyed every year they spent at Roscomare Road. I feel that the principal did a remarkable job and was almost always available to talk to parents and students when needed. The teachers at this school are outstanding and the new teachers are mentored by the more experienced ones when they needed support. Although the homework load was heavy at times it really did prepare my older son for middle school.

We are so very lucky to have the opportunity to send our child to Roscomare. The teachers are extremely dedicated and consistently go above and beyond to meet the needs of ALL the students. The principal has extensive experience in working with children and is an exceptionally strong leader. The students are happy and enthusiastic about learning. The classrooms are cheerful and inviting. The parent involvement helps to make this school the highly desired and respected academic institution that it continues to be. This is an excellent school by all measures.

I was very disappointed with Roscomare Road. I expected my child to learn to read in Kindergarten, but they assumed all the children alreay knew how to read, and did not take the time to teach them. I found many of the parents cold and unfriendly. It was not unusual to walk in the school and not have one person smile back at me or respond when I said hello. The principal did not know the students and was not visible. When my child's first grade teacher went to write in her record for this year, the teacher from last year didn't write anything. Think twice before considering this school.

This school cannot be rated highly enough. The booster club parent organization is very strong and makes all the difference in the children's experience at the school. The parent involvement is amazing here and it creates a wonderful family atmosphere and culture for the kids.

Roscomare Road is a small, neighborhood-based and parent supported school with high academic standards. Nestled in the hills of uppe Bel Air, the school seems removed from the usual hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, and the level of parental involvement in fundraising and community-building activities gives it a small-town feel. The teachers are excellent, seem generally happy with their work. The students are engaged and motivated. The principal has the respect of parents and teachers alike. The school definitely 'teaches for the tests' -- and places a high importance on academic achievement.

My first grader has had a great experience. Curriculum is clever and fun yet rigorously addresses fundamentals. They often teach several ways of doing something, so everyone can find their own learning style. A focus on values that we were surprised to find at a public school. Kindness and respect for one another are stressed and reinforced. A very high level of parental involvement, both in terms of volunteering in the classroom, etc. and fundraising efforts. The teachers my daughter has had have been wonderful and caring. Her kindergarten teacher had 30 years experience and was at once nurturing of the kids and expected them to behave kindly and well. Really helped my frightened daughter make a smooth transition. Her first grade teacher is relatively new but creative, energetic and loving. Because of private fundraising, the kids have music, art and computer lab programs. Principal is a bit of a cold fish.

Our daughter has attended Roscomare since kindergarten and we are very pleased. Most of the teachers are excellent and very committed and the school gets lots of help from a very active parent community. Academics are very important here and the homework can be a little extensive. Extracurricular activities like music and computer lab are also available.

Roscomare is considered one of the best public schools in LAUSD. It is highly academic, and it's test scores are evidence. The greatest asset of this school is it's parent involvement. The Booster Club provides additional aides for all classrooms, which helps the teachers spend all of their time on teaching. The Booster Club also provides for physical education, art, music and computer lab. The principal is excellent. The teachers are good. My oldest has been going to Roscomare from K through 5 and will be graduating this year. I am saddenned that he will be moving on as the atmosphere is one of a safe and nurturing environment. My kids love their school and have been very adamant that they would not want to change schools if we were to move.

A strong school. Recentlky beautified grounds. Mini traffic jams. Great parental involvment.

I cannot heap enough accolades on this school. I had two children enrolled here from k-5 and found most teachers went beyond the state curicullum requirements each year. Parent involvement was amazing! The school also has a gate program beginning in the 3rd grade as well as band, art, and chorus. They also offer after school activities for children of working parents. Both my kids were extremely prepared when entering middle school. I believe Roscomare Road laid the foundation for my children's continued academic success.

Roscomare Road lives up to its wonderful reputation. I have two boys there, and have been very pleased with their classes, teachers, and fellow students. The school is highly academic - some kindergarten parents feel it is too accelerated. The Booster Club works very hard and raises enough money to supply extra aides, art and music teachers K-5, a coach, and many extras. Orchestra is offered for 4th and 5th graders. Parents should plan to be involved, plus write yearly donations to the Booster Club. Roscomare offers a private school education for public school prices.

What a wonderful public school. The quality of the teachers, the resources and the education make this a fantastic place for the children. It is one of the top performing schools in the district, it has a great music teacher and very high level of parent involvement.

We have a son who has completed kindergarden and will be entering 1st grade in september 05. We have been pleased with the outstanding quality of the teachers and helpers. They are very attentive to the children and their curiculum is wonderful. Parental involvement is very, very high. The classroom and playground facilities are in excellent shape. We have nothing but wonderful things to say about the school. It is as fine as a first tier private school!

Roscomare Road is considered to be one of the best elementary schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District. It is located in a residential neighborhood in Bel Air and has approximately 450 students. The kindergarten experience was wonderful: nurturing and warm. Starting in 1st grade the students follow a traditional academic curriculum; homework every night that is pulled straight from a textbook, nothing too imaginative. The teachers, though, are caring and thoughtful. The parent body is involved and supportive. Most people think for a public school that it is excellent and prepares their kids to go on to either private or public middle school. The after school programs, however, are very poor. Lack of supervision, poorly administered, and just plain not adequate. This leaves working parents in a quandary. Most people just accept this and either pick up kids at the usual 2:40pm or shrug their shoulders.

Great neighborhood school with very involved parent support and excellent 'Extras' like music, art, computer lab, PE, etc. The teachers we have had in three years have all been first rate and take the time to give each student the attention they need. Beautiful, fairly small neighborhood campus, good afterschool programs including STAR Education enrichment classes.

Excellent parent involvement in school booster club. Similar to private school. High academic standards.

Our very own private public school! I have never experienced such commitment from teachers, students and parents. Together the school succeeds incredibly and beautifully. It is a shame that these kids do not have a great public middle school to match the experience of Roscomare. Many families are scrambling to find a private middle school to avoid Emerson. Too bad about the Belagio campus - would have made a beautiful middle school campus and we know that there are plenty of committed parents to help make the project work.

Wonderful teachers! The teachers are caring, nurturing, and informative. We are so lucky to be here.

This school is absolutely fantastic. The teachers are wonderful and friendly. Lot's of school spirit and the kids love the school. My son is getting a great elementary education and I would reccommend this school to any parent.

This school pushes academics. There is a lot of parent involvement and a lot of fundraisers. This is the most expensive public school in LA Unified. There are art classes and music classes offered which are funded by the school's fundraisers.

Roscomare is a great school. There is a lot of parent involvment. The teachers keep a competitive curriculum. They also have the Stars's program after school and on the campus! Huge plus.

A Gem. My son graduated and qualified for a much sought after middle school robotics program! Roscomare prvides a strong Academic program, with the proper amount of nuturing where needed, and exposure to the Arts, with field trips like the Getty Museum and Long Beach Aquarium, as well as fourth and fifth grade trips, IE San Diego Missions. The curriculum provides a wonderful learning experience for the kids, and theme teaching greatly helps the students gain perspective on the topic; History will be teaching about Abraham Lincoln, and English spelling words and composition will simultaneously relate to the same topic! The principal and teaches are dedicated and well trained, and the Booster Club provides needed support with after school enrichment programs and a fabulous annual spring fair and Silent Auction in early June, and a picnic for new kindergarten parents to get acquainted. Our second grade daughter is delighted to be at Roscomare.

When you look at the test scores at this school, remember that they are accomplished without any pre-screening, magnet program or SAS. Can you believe it? Truly all of the students are expected to do well here. If your child is not performing up to par, you will hear about it early and often but constructively with lots of suggestions for how to help. The teachers are amazing. There is tons of enrichment (P.E., music, art) and afterschool help (homework club) and activities (open schoolyard + STAR). If only all the LAUSD schools could be like this...

Roscomare Rd. is a fabulous school and we are thrilled our daughter is enrolled. The academic quality is high, the teachers are topnotch and very dedicated, and the parents are quite involved at every level.

Great school with a great booster club that makes it all possible. Started in Kindergarten and loved it once we got used to the homework. Lots of homework for a 5 yr. old. It gets better in 1st grade.
