Thomas Starr King Middle School Reviews

I have been in the magnet program for tow years, and all I can say is that these have been the best years of my life! I have 10 favorite teachers there, but I think that it is a little overcrowded. All I can say is that I will never forget Mr Abee, Mr Piumarta, Ms Turcios, Mr Purdy, and all the other teachers that I have met in this school. My parents had a hard time deciding which Middle school I should go to, and I shall never regret the choice that my parents made: sending me to Thomas Starr King Middle School. King MS, YOU ROCK!

King is a really great school and the teachers are pretty good. The Magnet Program is really good and there is also a geometry class. Since I'm in Magnet, I think that the teachers actually try hard to help the kids learn more about the subject and make it fun too. There is also student council or leadership in King which helps kids learn to take charge and help around the schools. But sometimes I think that the Magnet kids get more things than the regular kids at school such as the electives which isn't fair... Overall, King is actually great!

This school was a dump just a few years ago but the parents, neighbors, and neighborhood association have rallied to turn it around. We've planted trees, restored a WPA statue in the school courtyard, created a garden, painted and lit the school, started the Myra Underpass Mural Project and put in a magnet program. One amazing teacher, Kirk Palayan, even has a film festival put on by the kids. But, we can do more!

In my opinion this is a great school. The teachers are good there. It's where I met my favorite teachers. It is a fun school. I made lots of friends there. It is my last year there and I'm attending high school next year. But I will never forget this great school. I would say that the magnet program at King is not so good. The teachers are OK but not that good. I'm in honors and I think it's so much better than being in magnet.

The King Magnet program is, overall, quite good, but suffers from poor leadership. Fortunately there are a number of great teachers, and the LACER afterschool program is a wonderful place for kids to get together and do homework in a safe and supportive environment.

Right now Im in the 7th grade in magnet. THis school seems to have it all the electives are great and the teachers are cool. I have lerned a lot in king so I think this school is awesome. The only bad thing is that the school is too overcrowded.

While attending this school, I was in the magnet. I graduated on June, 2005, and am now a junior. I must say this school's magnet and honors program is very good. The teachers there work with the students in order to help them their best. I have a younger brother who attends the school now, and although the electives have slightly changed, it is still a good school. They have great electives to choose from, such as animation, robotics, art, and music.

Our child attend the gifted magnet program. The magnet school provided a challenging academic program. Overall, teachers were wonderful especially those that had been at the magnet school for some time. PE and nutrition and lunch times were with the entire school and tended to be rougher. Homework was rigorous - about 2 hours/day including some during weekends and holidays. Overall, I probably wouldn't have sent my child to the regular program but the Magnet was a good alternative for our bright child.

Wow, this school seems to have it all. Although it is overcrowded due to LAUSD not coming through on relieving the problem, the school seems like a diamond in the rough. The grounds are clean and have murals, mosaics and many pretty plants and trees. The teaching staff seems dedicated on all tracks and have innovative and dedicated staff. I am fully impressed with this school. I am hoping the district does it's job and comes through for the school to help with the overcrowding.

This is a severely over crowded school, with very rough kids. With over all low testing results I worry that my daughter will not be challenged. Although one of her teachers is very creative and seems to really love teaching. The office staff must be overworked. On a positive note the LACER after school program is fantastic they really care about the kids. They provide exceptional experiences for the children involved.

I was shocked when I read the parent reviews. I can only assume that these were parents whose child was in the magnet program. As a teacher, I found the discipline and follow through on the administration extr emely poor. I understand that the school and classes are over populated, but the students are running the school.

Ms. P, our son's honors algebra teacher is the best ever. Sbe is showing him how to organize his notes and improve his study habits. She is also helping him to come up with his own algebraic equations and be able to explain and give proof of his answers and his understandings of math. He is definately being prepared for the future. There is a new track that looks great. The principal is very knowledgeable and so are the v-ps.

My son has been in the magnet program at this school for 2 years. The teaching staff is exceptional. The quality of curriculum was above and beyond anything I ever thought possible at a public school. Communication between staff and parents is excellent. Also, their free after school activity program, Lacer ,is fantastic.

Great sports programs fun to be at! Students are able to choose electives. Has great teachers on all grades. They take great care of you. You will never forget this school. Have classes like art, music, animation, and computers. Always check your hall pass. Your child will never be able to ditch. Take very great care of gangs. Always check your uniform to see if you are wearing somthing different when your not soppose to. The principal is very close to the students. Everyone can help you if you need somthing. Always have parent teachings and parent meetings on things luike gang awarness, change odf uniforms, etc. If your new you get along quick. Lots of basketball courts. There are four baseball fields (the grass is gone though.) If your going to move your student this is the place.
