Hollywood Senior High School Reviews

Hollywood High is such an amazing place. I was an honors student in the SAS program and now attend UCSB. I owe my achievements not only to myself but to the dedicated teachers and councilors!

I'm a Hollywood HIgh Alum (class of 2008). I am now a sophomore at Georgetown University and I feel being in the SAS program, and HHS, prepared me to be a student who would see the world in a different way (and not just for face value). I became an active learner and my teachers at HHS all helped me to read and write at a college level. Looking back, my education at HHS was invaluable and I've had so much fun all throughout years of high school. I've learned leadership skills through JROTC Army at HHS and through various other extracurricular activities (Junior State of America, California Scholarship Federation, National Honor Society, Fencing, Treehugger Club, Community Service, Key Club). My guidance counselor and my college counselor and my teachers all helped me when I was applying to 21 colleges and universities and for that I'm truly grateful!

It's all superstition. I have never seen a fight at this school, ever. Like any other school, it counts on which crowd you hang around. SAS is an excellent program and the performing arts classes are wonderful, as well. This school has one of the top college counselors in the nation.

I am a currentley a senior at Hollywood Senior High School and I think that its a really good school. I can't say its the best because I have'nt been to all the other High schools in the world. What i can say that its been a great experince and that I'm glad i got the chance to be a student there. Go Sheiks!!!

I have two daughters at this school in the 9th and 10th grades. They are both in the Performing Arts magnet and take all honors and AP courses in their core academic courses. Many of the teachers are very good. The performing arts classes are good and the students get valuable performing experience that enriches their education, builds discipline and character and prepares them for hard work in the real world. The school does not have very high test marks but my daughters are doing very well academically because we constantly push them and push the teachers and administrators. Any school at some point is what the students and parents make it.

Hollywood High School, is one of the best high schools ever. Im a former grad from Hollywood. I went from 2002-2006 and it was the best four years of my life. There are great teachers, programs and sport teams. There was only one fight the entire time I was there. Teachers are wonderful and espically the sport programs. I was a four year volleyball and basketball captain. Hollywood High is one of the best high schools and will ever be for another 103 years to come.

My son started in 9th grade & is now almost finished 11th grade. Having moved from European, my son at Hollywood High has been given such great opportunities that he would never had in his old school. For example in JROTC (and no they don't make students join the army!) it has helped him build confidence and take leardership. Also I have found that if & when his grades droped back a little, most of the teachers worked with him & myself around the problem. The 'School' itself is not a problem, it's the system, and the Goverement is resposible for the school system. My son is happy at Hollywood High, so I'm Happy.

The academic programs are good, they have advanced classes, honors and ap. The teachers are very educated. Children can join the band or football, soccer, basketball, and baseball. Parents have a fair involvement in the education of the children.

The quality of academic programs is fairly high, especially in the School for Advanced Studies on A and C tracks. There are several National Board Certified teachers on staff. Some 50 of the 121 teachers have 11 or more years of teaching experience. The availablility of music and extracurricular activities are limited mostly to A Track, except for sports. Students have very few electives to choose from. When the French teacher on C Track retired, she was not replaced, leaving Spanish as the only foreign language on the track. The level of parent involvement is disappointingly low, despite the school's strenuous attempts to engage them.

Parents must advocate for their children at this school site. It is possible to get a decent education if parent is on top of curriculum being taught in each class. Make sure teachers are teaching to state standards and call them on it if they are not. Not many teachers like change and times are a changin. It is difficult to see other parents that simply do not advocate and it frustrates me when parents don't speak up. So speak up, its your childs future at stake. Magnets are decent.

This is a quite disapointing school. There are many fights, and it is not safe. I do not recommend parents to enroll their child in this school. Besides, students do not get good education in this school.

Each child is encouraged to do their personal best without being labeled as the smart or dumb kids. The teachers are highly skilled and work hard to bring out the best in each child. The principal is kind and knows each child by name. She is a great example of a leader and I will miss seeing her everyday as my daughter graduates this year. Thank you ANLC for bringing out the best in my children and giving them the encouragement and confidence they need to go out into the world! '

Overall, Hollywood High School is not the best school to send college bound students to. Their A-Track math and English departments are very good, however most of the science department is not.

After searching for and looking into different performing arts schools, my decision to select Hollywood Senior High school Magnet Performing Arts was the best choice for my Son's needs. The staff is supportive and the Magnet students are of a 'special' type. I highly recommend that if you are searching for a great performing arts school for your child, consider Hollywood High Magnet program.

I am an alumnus of Hollywood Sr. High School. Many years before it became a Performing Arts Magnet, it had a high quality Drama and Music Department, which I thoroughly enjoyed and profited from.
