Delevan Drive Elementary School Reviews

Both my kids go to Delevan Drive and they love it. You can tell how an environment is for your children when they express how they feel about it. If my kids are happy I'm happy. They have learned so much and the teachers are great. When my daughter was struggling the teaching did everything to help. I love that the school knows how handle situations, not just on education but any problems that come up. I wish this school went to 12th grade.

My daughter started Delevan Drive this year. She is in Mrs. Acosta's pre-K class. I couldn't be happier. We had her enrolled in a Montessori school that was very expensive. However, I have found that she is learing more at Delevan than she did at Montessori. The school really makes everyone feel welcomed. You can tell when your on campus that there is a team environment with the teachers, students, administration and parents. I have found everyone to be so helpful and really nice. I would highly recommend this school to anyone looking for quality education within a positive environment.

Delevan is an exceptional school compared to others in the neighborhood. Like with everything else in life, there are good and bad things to be considered (PTA and staff members). A parent will do well at this school so long as he/she has the Principal's seal of approval. There are after-school programs now, but, why did it take the Principal so long to approve parents to bring it into our school? And, why charge the kids so much money? Technically, Delevan Drive is still in the 'barrio'; more than 1/2 of the students get free lunch. Why isn't the Principal working harder to get the FREE after school program offered by the State to come into Delevan?

Delevan Drive Elementary School has excellent academic curriculum and the teachers are beyond exemplary. The administration works side by side with parents on concerns and goals. The children's backgrounds are diverse and unique. I used to have my children in a private school, they were behind academically when I transferred them to Delevan. The teachers and Principal worked hard to make their transitions smooth and successful. The after school programs were lacking, but a dedicated group of parents have brought in such classes as : Orchestra, Art, Science, Basketball and it grows more each term. I love being a part of my community school, interacting with the families and the school staff. I would highly recommend Delevan to any parent. The parents, teachers, administration and kids is what makes this school great.

Delevan Drive is an academically outstanding school. As far as extracurricular activities, there is an after school program that is dependent on the time and energy of the parents. Those on the committee are responsible for everything from seeking out teachers to scholarships and finances. That is a lot work! So if one is really concerned about after school activities, my advice is to volunteer! Make your mark, make a difference, walk the walk, not just talk the talk. You will see that it is rewarding, fulfilling and making a difference with children who have never been privet to these activities. Delevan Drive certainly has room for improvement. Such as a new cafeteria/auditorium, homework club, fresh ideas for fundraising, improving our schools garden, but Rome was not built in a day. By working together and taking baby steps we can make a difference. I believe so! Do You?

I think overall Delevan Drive is a great school. My 1st grade daughter loves it. Her teacher is wonderful, with many years of experience. The only downside to the school is the lack of an after school program. They only have a supervised play yard, which is truly not supervised all that well. But if you are able to make other arrangements for your child after school, this really is a terrific school.

This is an excellent school and it's API scores are higher than it's neighboring schools, Dahlia and Eagle Rock Elementary School. Parents are trully involved in their children's education. The only complaint I have is the lack of extracurricular activities.

Delevan Drive has strong parent involvement; the school couldn't hold special activities or events without them. The annual Harvest Fest & Book Fair night average 75 volunteers at a time.Every month the PTA holds an activity or event for the students; if there was any more involvement, it would interfere with the curriculum. In regards to the last posting, the Xmas Program holds 4 performances so there is always enough room. The parents are responsible for starting and organizing the Afterschool Program. There is a maximum of 15 students per class to avoid overcrowding. The vice principal has recently started a valet service with parents volunteering. Everyone at Delevan works as a team;the students, teachers, staff, and parents. This school is a model for all schools in LAUSD.

I am unhappy with the LAUSD curriculum, not necessarily the school. Open court reading and the math curriculum are all that is concentrated on. This is what makes the school's API so high. There are after school programs to supplement other subjects, but I have found them to be over crowded. The PTA involvement is LACKING. There is not enough time within the rigorous open court and math to focus on the individual. The xmas program was a disappointment. There is not enough room in the theater to seat parents. Afterschool supervision is minimal and dangerous.

Delevan is a wonderful school eventhough there is a lack of parent involvement and a feuding PTA. The children have maintained their innocence and are oblivious to parent rivalries. The school now offers after school activities thru PTA funding, however, class fees are $60 for 1x/wk, 8-wk course. They should have a diversity in what is offered; something that would actually benefit a child (i.e. homework help, math-a-palooza, science, karate, not 'yard games'). The school's API is one of the highest in the area thanks to the wonderful teachers employed, despite the Principal's leadership abilities.

This is an incredible school with an outstanding staff. Nothing is ever perfect and this situation is no different. For the most part everyone is one the same page with the success of their children and all children being the ultimate goal. Luckily the year is coming to an end and this will allow for a new team to come in and handle unfinished buisnes.

The after school program offers truly outstanding classes, such as music, art, engineering through legos, basketball, and others that complement in-class instruction. Every class offers scholarships and sibling discount rates that are advertised together with class information. Thanks to Delevan s PTA, all scholarships that demonstrated need have been awarded, making the program accessible to everyone. I can only hope that all parents know that they are available and apply for them.

The teachers are great and staff is wonderful but it is unfortunate that after school music and art classes isolate the haves from the have nots.

I have three kids attending this school from the oldest since kindergarten. The teachers and faculty are doing an awesome job as to making this school maintain above average for the required API scores. Continue to doing a great job!

I dont see any Extracurrcicular activities such as soccer game, football games, swimming and camping trip and field trip and the school does not have any resources to find girls/boys scouts for my two kids to keep them activity. as for Parents/teacher (PTA evening meetings), I dont participate the PTA meetings as I am not sure whether provide sign language interpreters.

This is one of the better elementary schools in the Los Angeles county and around our area. The staff are involved with the student programs. Wonderful place.

I had my kids attend Delevan since kinder, now my kids are really well educated and respectful of other kids and elders, thanks to Delevan Elementary.

I pulled out my two little children from a famous private school (in the middle of the school year!) and transferred them to Delevan Drive Elementary School! I am just so happy and relieved! Principal and the whole staff are very dignified, professional yet caring, warm and friendly. Thank you and more power!

Excellent School! Dedicated Principal that expects and receives the Best from the Teachers. I changed my children from private school to Delevan. It has been a wonderful experience.
