Canterbury Avenue Elementary School Reviews

I attended this school as a child and loved it , now my son is there and frankly I feel the attention to students is not good. My son has been on the waiting list for magnet for 3 years and I feel that they put people ahead of him. His current teacher does not challenge him and gets easily frustrated with him. At times when I have approached the staff they have a non-chalant attitude about the problems. I am very dissapointed with the way the school is being run.

I have my child enrolled in the magnet program and can vouch to say that the wait was worth it. They have many trips and extracurricular activities that assist the kids with learning certain subjects. They have a music program, great drama performances that give everyone the opportunity to participate and audition, even kids with no prior experience. Parents are welcome to and usually do get involved. Overall its a great school.

My child is in the magnet program, and I feel this program is exceptional. Great principal, and in our experience, great teachers.

Canterbury is a remarkable school. I am proud to teach at Canterbury because it is a place where the teachers are inspired, the administration is excellent, and the students are put above all else. My only concern is the lack of parent interest in starting a PTA, an organization that I feel is greatly needed and could positively enhance our school and student learning. Interested parents should approach Mrs. Rodriguez, our principal. Tell her you are willing to do what is needed to get the PTA up and running!

This is my daughter's first year at Canterbury, she's is in Kindergarten. She loves it. Her teacher is great. I am very pleased with this school

I have two children attending Canterbury one is in kindergarten first year and my other child is in second grade second year. I am very happy with both teachers as well as the previous years. The teacher's that my children have had are great they have patients, organization, passionate, and creative in what they do.

My child is in her 3rd year in the Magnet and this is the first year she is really not enjoying what she is learning and how disappointing. The last two years were incredible, this year hasn't been so great between the teacher not being as organized, absent and projects have not been as challenging as previous years.

I have 2 children that attend Canterbury, 1 in magnet & 1 in residential, they love it & so do we.My husband even attended it when he was younger & loved it as well. The teacher's are wonderful, patient, & passionate about what they do.This school is very community friendly & very inviting for parents.I along with many parents volunteer their time. There are music programs, drama club, art & so many more extracurricular activities.I'm very proud to be part of the 'Canterbury' family.I'm sad that this is my daughter's last year, but happy it's the just the beginning of my son's.I would highly recommend this school to anyone with elementary kids.It is an all around great school.

I am aparent with 3 kids attend Canterbury Magnet. The teachers, staff and parents are wonderful. This school is a great stepping stone for the future.

Class sizes are too high, teacher do the bare minimum. Many students are behind. CAT6 test score should be posted by classroom/teacher for viewing, with the childrens names protected. General school statistics are not good. Staff needs to be advanced in there weak subject matters and create a plan where kids are not left behind while there teacher is out or trying to get handle on things. Over all I know the school has advanced with there new principal but I expected more from there high ability magnet program. Therefore I look forward to our new blue ribbon school we will attend this fall. All our schools here in the USA should have higher standars. Our kids deserve it!

Class sizes are too high and 1 on 1 instruction is rare, which causes some kids to fall behind. We need more teachers!

I am a former student at Canterbury. Overall, Canterbury is a great school for I have watched it grow before my eyes. Canterbury has improved in all activities including: teachers, activities, literacy, safety and disipline. Canterbury has and continues to show great improvement throughout the years.
