Baldwin Hills Elementary School Reviews

Baldwin Hills is a good school. The teachers and the Principal are trying very hard to provide an enriched learning environment. The Principal is open to communication with parents and does follow up on concerns. I enjoy the school and will continue to support it progress.

Baldwin Hills has the appearance of a high achieving school, but looks can be deceiving! If one were to disaggregate the state test data and look at the community school vs. the magnet school, the significant achievement gap would readily jump out at you. Many of the teachers have negative attitudes about the students and their parents. The culture of the school is very bitter and resentful. There is very little active parent participation except when there is some type of student performance or a complaint (often belligerent). The school has limited opportunities for enrichment for its community or magnet students. There are no significant after school programs. In terms of the school administration, there is very little hands on interaction from the school's principal. She is very rarely on campus and when she is, she has no time for parents and very little time for her staff. Think twice!

My daughter is in the Kindergarten class and just started this semester. I am pleased with the charisma of the teacher, she is very warm and welcoming. When I dropped my daughter off this morning they were listening to a song teaching them their multiplication tables, I thought that was excellent to start teaching the students this information at the age of five.

Baldwin Hills Elementary is a wonderful school that would be even better if the principal was more approachable. It seems that she is ALWAYS to busy to meet with parents when they have concerns regarding their chikld's welfare, wheather in the classroom or playground. Some of the problems could be rectified and students would have a better chance for positive learning if the principal would do her job and get rid of some of the 'No Teaching and Don't Have a Clue as to How to Teach' teachers. Some of these teachers are doing the students more harm than good. Submitted by a parent.

Baldwin Hills Elem is an outstanding school for Academics. Mr Wiley is an excellent 5th grade teacher, he is very professional. My child was very lucky to have such an outstanding teacher

According to my experience as a father of 2 kids enrolled in K and 3rd grade, Baldwin Hills has more diversity (I'm a latino parent), strict conduct code (good for kids and parents) and really good projects which means kids need to research a lot. I've seen the principal and other staff greeting kids every day at the beginning (geneal assembly) and end of classes. I think that level of communication adds a personal touch so everybody feels member of a big family. My daughter in K can now read simple books and write a lot of words. My 3rd grader has learned a lot about math, science (he likes space science) and literature. His teacher makes a special emphasis in pursuing a university degree, so kids picture themselves already with a good job/business, assets, bonds, stocks, etc. I'm proud to be involved as a parent in different school activities. Got-a-10+.

As a parent and an educator I feel strongly about saying that Baldwin Hills is by far one of the worst schools i've ever seen. This school is highly unoraganized. I would never recommend this school to any parent that cares about their child's education.

This school has potential, but lacks diversity. The magnet coorindator seems like she doesn't want to be there and w/o strong leadership the school won't improve it's scores.

This school has potential I just wish it were more diverse.

This school has a magnet program within the regular elementary school. The students are basically all together, except during class times. In the morning before school starts whoever has yard duty can be heard screaming at the children to behave. They do not issue progress reports before the parent-teacher conferences and the teachers do not have a dress code.

I am very pleased with the LA's best after school program. All the staff members and coaches go out of their way for the kids , keep them in a structured learning environment. My daughter has been attending the program for two years, she is very content. The homework center, learning programs are outstanding, keep my daughter motivated.Keep up the good work .

I am very satisfied with the academic progress my eight year old daughter has made while attending Baldwin Hills Gate program.Mrs Makin,Mr Carrabello are excellent teachers who deserve recognition for the quality of their teaching.

This is an excellent magnet program. The teachers are open to parent suggestions and incorporates them in the curriculum. Afterschool program is just okay.

Baldwin Hills has an excellent magnet program available along with the SAS classes. My child has gone there for 4 years and I have been very pleased with her academic progress. This school has been a great start for her and she now has been identified as gifted and will move on to magnet for 6th grade.

Both of my son's have attended BH. My oldest son who is Autistic was in speacial education. I found BH to be very involved in devolping my oldest son's ability to be included into activities with the children that were in regular education. My youngest son has seemed to always have teachers who motivate and inspire him. The only thing I feel was lacking at this school is the amount of extracurricular activites.

Both my children attended BHES. They both fondly remember specific teachers who made a difference to them and they both dislike the principal. The office staff is a joke. There are about five teachers who are qualified and dedicated to teacher while others sit back for a paycheck. There is parent involvement which I sensed some teachers did not welcome. As a parent, I found it difficult to communicate with the principal, because she was always away from school. My overall review is that there is a strong parent/student body who insist on getting the best education and holding the teachers accountable and that is what has pulled BHES through.

I have to say that my child has only been there for one year, but Mrs. Sanders is one of the best teachers. She truly cares about the students and it shows with how the children excel and are genuinely happy. As for the Principal I had no type of interraction with her and don't believe she makes her prescence known as much as it should. Overall I am happy with the school and so is my child.

I have 2 neices attending this school. I have been very pleased with there performance and advance learning that has come out of this school. To have the ethnic base that it has it is a remarkable school.

My daughter attended this school 1st-5th grade. It started out great, but the teachers became disappointing. In 4th grade, they didn't have a permanent teacher the 1st half of the year. Children are kept in the gifted cluster programs, even when they are failing to perform and are becoming behaviour problems. The principal is very hard to touch base with.

Baldwin school is one the best schools I've ever known, it's a special place for student and teachers to work together and most of all they have alot to teach children. They involve children in the best of activities and after school programs than others. This school provides math, english, computer, science, and other programs for which they can get involved, learn the best and become better persons. I love this school and hoping I could get my other child from this school. My older daughter has graduated with 3 & 4 only. I am proud and happy with Baldwin Hills School, and recommend it to anyone.

Baldwin Hills Elementary Learn Magnet School is a wonderful neighborhood school. Since coming out of private school, my child has excelled in math and science! The instructor's credentials were excellent and that was evident in my child's report card! Better than Private School!

I love B. H. E. school. The teachers, principles, and staff are friendly and always willing to help.

Great caring teachers, my children learned a lot.
