I have a 6th and 8th grader at Luther. Although this is just the beginning of the year, I have quickly learned that the teachers genuinely care for their students. Creativity is a major learning tool in these classes. Any parent knows that being creative is crucial when getting and keeping the attention of a child. Back-to-school night was well organized and I was sold on the schools motto, 'Moving in the Right Direction.' Keep up the good work, Luther!

Luther has had a make-over inside and out! The principal and her staff are doing a great job. My son is thriving. I am very pleased and thankful for all the positive changes. Remember, how well your child does in school starts in your own home.

Thank you to Mrs. Cashman, Schoenfeld,Shackmann, Simmons, Mr. Reed you made my daughter's experience at Luther alright with the transition into 6th grade. I appreicate all of you. Let's make this year even better!

Luther has come a long way from just a couple of years ago. There is great leadership. Mrs. Schackmann, Mr. O'Rourke and a fantastic school security team, keep things running smoothly. They are personable and actually know their students. They make themselves available to the parents and students at all times. Any issues brought up to them get resolved immediately. They oversee and are very involved in all activities at LBMS. In the past couple of years Mrs. Schackmann has brought in some excellent teachers to join the other amazing teachers that have hung in there, and now can concentrate on teaching. These teachers seem to really recognize the worth of what they are doing and take a sincere interest in their students. I see LBMS becoming the quality middle school in Burbank that it once was.

I moved to the burbank are because of the schools, my son was at John Muir and very happy but because where we bought our house they moved him to Luther, my son and I are very unhappy with Luther, teachers are not prepared, my son had his semester and they were behind and what the teacher did was just give the students what was going to be on the test, of course my son got an a+ but they didn't study 3 chapters. Parents are not involved at all. So sad that my son is stock in that school and can't go to Muir.

Luther has been a wonderful experience for my son so far. Mrs. Schackman and Mr. O seem to keep things under control at the school which allows the students to focus on learning and having fun. Excellent, dedicated teachers such as Mr. Reed and Mrs. Farmer make Luther special.

Luther is finally getting some of the recognition it deserves. From the California Distinguished School Award to a high-tech culinary arts room, this school provides a truly individualized learning experience for students. The principal is welcoming and the staff sincerely cares.

Luther Burbank Middle School is still suffering from too many principals in too few years. Although many of the teachers have invested a lot of hope in their new leader there is still much to be done to make the school better academically and environmentally. Never before have I experienced such blatant defiance of parental concern. The teachers have had too much power in the past and some are loathe to relenquish it now. Parental involvment is not encouraged here. Parents....be aware and attentive to your student!

This is a great school. Although the extracurricular activities may not be that great, teachers really explain subjects clearly and in a way anybody can understand.

A really great school with lots of highly qualified teachers, and plenty of engaging, motivating elective options.

I feel that this school could definitely use some up-grading in all area's. I was shocked at the chipping paint and dirty atmoshere. I certainly think that the teachers and administrators at this school feel that middle school is not an important part of our childrens educations. The elementary teachers work very hard to prepare our students but they are being hurt by the burbank middle school programs. Very sad indeed. I have talked to many of the teachers at Luther and was surprised by their lack of responsibility for the low scores at this school.

Both of my kids were in the GATE program. Overall the English and Science are good quality courses with teachers who care about the students and use a variety of special projects to make the coursework more interesting. Both of my kids were in Geometry, and I was very unhappy with the method of instruction and treatment of the kids by the instructor. She used quite a bit of material she created herself, didn't go through the text as it was written and wasn't readily available for extra help. Instrumental music & art courses seemed sufficient - drumline started last year & either rock band or concert band performs at most school events. Athletic department is good & offers several after-school sports as well as cheerleading. GATE parents are very involved and came together to supplement field trip and activity funds suffering from budget cuts.

Like any public school, the most serious problem with Luther Burbank M.S. is teacher apathy resulting from a failed civil service union program. Teachers not protected from performance and discipline requirements would do a much better job. Union inefficiency is obvious almost across the board. The second problem is infrastructure. While the citizens of Burbank overwhelmingly approved a capital bond issue years ago, few of the funds have flowed to schools in the southwest , airport region of the city and have gone to the more affluent and influential areas. Politics in Burbank is as detrimental in its results as the union griplock. Major changes are needed in Burbank's government, school administration and teacher quality. Personally, I see the poor mark given to LBMS teacher seniority as a good sign. The kids need fresh, enthusiastic, skilled teachers and not tenured do-nothings.

Luther is a great school. Regarding paperwork not getting home--learn to ask for it daily; kids forget. Luther has dedicated teachers who will go the extra mile to help kids and parents in need. As for the table with info? It's in the main office...and the counseling office. Have at it!

Well responding to what was previously said about students not bringing paper work home, whose fault is that? Certainly not the schools. I was once a student at Luther Burbank and guess what? I took all my papers home. It's the kids who need to be changed, not the school. The school is fine, although lacking in so many areas. Althought the school is decent, by the end of 8th grade you get a certain 'finally outta this place' feeling...i can't explain why

The school should make more of an effort to get paper work to the parents and not give it to the students expecting it to make it home. All the students do is either tose it or lose it. Perhaps have a designated table where parents can come and get information regarding upcoming activities and/or sporting events or clubs offered in the school.
