Burbank High School Reviews

My son has been a student at BHS for 2 years. I have found most of the teachers to be caring and concerned with student progress, although I do sometimes feel like my son is just part of the crowd. Teachers do make themselves available to students for tutoring. If there are opportunites for parent involvement they are not well-promoted

Great teachers and administrators, wonderful resources, excellent curriculum. Important extra activities are being slashed, like arts and music programs, but Burbank High School continues to excel in these areas, as well as others. Because of cutbacks, driver education has been eliminated which I find inexcusable. Corporate America receives mega millions in bonuses while our schools and education - the single-most important factor for any country - are cut back to less than third world standards. Unacceptable and another inexcusable. Overall, Burbank High School is an excellent educational institutes which deserves to continue to excel. Too many are struggling...

The administrators and teachers here, for the most part, are poor communicators. The district as a whole is behind the times in technology and in getting information out to parents and students via the Internet. It is a safe school. I can give it high marks for safety. But it does not have an atmosphere of innovative, creative, or visionary thinking to prepare students for the careers of tomorrow. The fact that the school and the district do not have modern websites is indicative of the old-fashioned educational design that exists at Burbank High. Old-fashioned, in my opinion, isn't good enough anymore. It would also be great if all the teachers and administrators could return phone calls. This lack of communication is such a serious problem that if a parent asked me if I would recommend this school I would say 'no'. Parents should be partners with the schools, not ignored.

Both of our children went through Burbank schools from K-12. During their high school years, Burbank High went through numerous changes in principals and other admin. staff. Both children were gifted but had ADHD. The Gifted program ended with middle school, and all Burbank High provided was honors or AP courses. We had to continually fight the administration to obtain needed accommodations (i.e. extended testing time) The school, in general, did not encourage true academic achievement, however we did have an excellent guidance counselor and a handful of dedicated and caring teachers. Fortunately, our children were able to enroll in college courses concurrently and thus supplement the Burbank High education, which probably made all the difference in their college acceptance. I would recommend Crescenta Valley or La Canada High.

Burbank High School a good school that has a lot to offer, but one thing that really bothers me is that transfer students from other states and countries are made to go to summer school to 'make up' high school credits because previous schools 'may not be approved'. Some advice... brfore you transfer make sure that your high school credits are approved by Burbank High because the whole summer school process can be very tiresome.

Burbank high school is the best school I have ever seen. the music program is the best. I recently transferred to a specialized high school for vocal music and the vocal department is not as good as it was in burbank

It has good enivorment like the stores, food stores, and mall near the high school. It has really good eduaction, and good deaf program, better than other high school. It also has mainstream , good for students to learn other cultures include deaf culture. Sports is great program there also. There [are] different kinds [of] sports avaiable for most students to do like soccer, dance..If some of them dont like sports, they can do band and other thing instead. Also their parent are really great supporters for student and helped high school with the fundariser.

I think this school is not very good. The administrators are not very supportive.

I'm a sophomore and I must say this is a great school. It's much better than just about anything in the LAUSD, I used to go to schools in Van Nuys and this school is heaven compared to it. The new principal, Mr. Osgood, formerly of John Muir Middle School, has sent BHS in the right direction. Thee school was recently remodeled and nearly everything is in great shape, that is except for the field. The track is awful! It definitely needs to be redone. The discipline is excellent, they are very strict. Most of the teachers are wonderful and caring and are willing to offer individual help. The electives are great and the 4-year plans are very helpful. This is a great school and I recommend it to anyone.

I am a student at Burbank High and it is a wonderful school. The teachers are dedicated and truly care about the students. There are great academic programs, and generally, the people are great.

As long as you already have a good student this should be a good school.

Teachers do make themselves available to students for tutoring. If there are opportunites for parent involvement they are not well-promoted. The administrators I have interacted with have all been very helpful. I think one thing BHS is lacking is educational innovation. Perhaps all the demands of NCLB make innovation and new approaches to learning and classes difficult to impossible, but it would be great to see some fun extracurricular activities added to build a stronger sense of school community.

Outstanding Performing Arts programs. Beautiful newly renovated campus. The quality of teachers is half and half. Some classes lack basic structure needed to teach students efficiently. Extracurricular activities are of good quality and cater to a vast number of student interests.

It really isnt that great of a school if your kid needs even a little help with choosing classes or guidance you came to the wrong school.

It's an okay school, with a great ROTC program and a separate facility for higher ranking students.

Overall, our family is pleased with the environment at the school and very pleased with the increasing quality of administrators, teachers and level of parent involvement. The desire and direction of the school staff and interested parents as a whole is very encouraging and infectious. The emphasis on sports, versus academics and the arts is 'evening' out and becoming more well rounded. Our youngest is a sophomore so we have several more years to be involved and see how much closer we can come to the goal of a cohesive school community and it's contribution to the Burbank/LA community as a whole! We look for exciting days to come!
