Bishop Amat High School Reviews

The teachers here are really preparing us for the rigors of college.I'm taking honors & accelerated subjects.Everyday you have something to do as if there's no end but it's better to work hard now.(The more you work hard, the easier it gets).

I'm very glad I chose to go to Bishop Amat Memorial High school. Sure the rules are pretty strict, but at the same time the atmosphere is pretty laid-back. They have plenty of awesome clubs and extra activities you can join. Also, no one will get lonely here. If you happen to be alone, there will always be at least one person that will invite you to hang out with them :) The teachers are pretty good and the schedule is pretty convenient. I love it here :)

Excellent school. I have never been to a school that has this degree of organization and parental access. I can access my daughter's scores online the day she takes the test and what classes she is taking on any particular date. The teachers are very accessible and it is obvious from my daughter's work that she is learning a lot everyday. I am very satisfied with this school. If your child has honor classes he/she won't have any free time during the evening. The workload is very heavy.

An excellent school with a real catholic atmosphere. No worries about the other kids who won't follow the rules. They would be out of the school immediately.Uniform policy are really strict, principal is doing a good job with everything else.

As a former teacher, I can honestly say that it is one of the best schools high schools in the area. The teachers provide rigor, support, enthusiasm and an overall great learning environment. The students are respectful, motivated and try their best to succeed. The campus ministry and religion department is true to the teachings of the Catholic Church and provides opportunities to deepen the faith. There is a vast array of team sports and clubs. Lastly, Bishop Amat is a family!

i know..Bishop or St. Lucy's right? well you should choose Bishop Amat if your daughter has great potential in sports, particularly softball. If your child wants to concentrate more on the academics then send her to St. Lucy's..it will be better because there are no boys..but i believe girls need boys around. we are in teh real world and they need to be social and around everyone.

If your middle school offers a rigorous curriculum you won't regret going to bishop amat. Especially if you are taking advanced math subjects. That would really help you. In that case good luck!

the school offers International Baccalaureate and AP courses which prepares the students for the rigors of college. (only to the students who qualifies)

if they can hire more experienced & credentialed teachers that will be more a benefit for us!!!!

it's worth to go this school if you are taking AP classes.if your child is focused and wants to be challenged then this is the high school for you!

This is a fantastic high school. We are ecstatic with the curriculum they offered.

if your child wants a challenging school then this is the school for you.take AP courses & international baccaulareate and college will be a breeze!

Excellent high school prep. for strong students It's really worth it when you really are advance, you really have to be consistent if not , that will be stressful for you!

this school prepare you for the rigors of college if you are Motivated and ambitious.if not this is not the private school for your kids.wonderful school for those in honor & 4.0 class!!

great college preparatory high if you are on top of your class have a scholarships and good moral conduct.

great school! This will be more great if every students are in AP courses & International baccalaureate courses. So you better prepare before you come in here.

This is a disciplined private school .However, they need more improvement on their Science & math or maybe they need more knowledgeable and credentialed teachers!

Our son is doing great. However they need more focused staff to those students who are just going to this school to show off .they shldn't be there.that would make the school low standard.discipline & safety plus academics go together.

We need more experienced ,focused teachers so some of the students will focused more and do the right choices, not just wearing a nice uniforms, being in a private school & doing something that is not good for the school. That will be unfair for the rest of the students who are really persisient & consistent

this school need more improvement on science & math curriculum sports and religion is their #! curriculum

School is horrible period. The school has begun to allow a questionable element in. The schools also conceratess too much effort into the football program and not on the kids. This place is not what it used to be.

I graduated from Bishop Amat and am proud to be an alumni. I am greatful that my parents decided to send me toBishop Amat. I hope to someday send my childern there too.

Bishop Amat promotes a challenging environment for me as a student. Many challenging experiences from the AP, IB and Honors programs are available to all students who seek them. All students are encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities. When students are enthusiastic about learning educators meet that with the same attitude. So many programs are available for students to challenge and help themselves at the same time. I love my school and the spirit there is such a positive one to have the chance to work in. I encourage all who are able and willing to attend Amat to do so.

Stanford University graduate 2005 (daughter), Loyola Marymount University graduate 2007 (daughter), and a great selection of very fine 1st line institutions await my son. These opportunities would not have been available to my children had it not been for the fine teaching staff at Bishop Amat Memorial High School. For those detractors of Amat, I would suggest more involvement with the childs progress and goals. As for the academics achievement my son is currently in the IB program and is well prepared for whatever endeavor he decides to pursue. The short term may be a monetary concern however, that should be considered an investment in your child's future our concerns should focus on the desire to achieve and make a difference in today's society. Kudos to Amat...go Lancers.

Our junior has been fortunate to have had only two teachers at Amat who have shown enthusiasm, ability, mastery of curriculum, and ability to teach to different learning styles. The rest of the staff teach 'by rote' from the textbooks because they are either uninspired, or lack the necessary teaching skills to reach all students with a variety of teaching strategies. We are disappointed that our student is not getting the challenge to learn from her teachers that is exciting and inspiring. We are sorry to say the staff has not improved in our three years at Amat. We also feel the tuition is already too high for what our student is receiving in the classroom.

A big disappointment! For the amount of money we are paying for our student to attend, we get: teachers, adminstrators, and counselors who do not respond to parent inquiries on a timely basis, questionable teaching practices in the classrooms, an overemphasis on winning, and an exclusive, not inclusive environment for new parents to partcipate in their children's education. We are not sending our other children to Amat. When asked by other parents, we will certainly tell them of our experiences at this school. We made a huge mistake selecting this school over others.

Our son graduated from Amat in 2002, and our daughter is a junior now. She is very disappointed as she prepares for college applications that Amat lacks math and science programs. The IB program neglects serious math and science curriculum in favor of foreign languages and fine arts. Many colleges focus on AP classes, and Amat lacks a serious approach to preparation for four year colleges that are competitive... Five years ago, my son had more opportunity to prepare for college entrance exams than my daughter does now... AP classes need to be available to students who are preparing for college...

Bishop Amat focuses resources on sports rather than academic endeavors, so we will not send our son to this school for sophomore year! His father is an alumni, and he believes this school has changed dramatically to the detriment no longer representing a college preparatory curriculum!

As a former student at Amat, I feel the need to share to parents the quality of this high school. Its traditions are deeply rooted and its spirituality is above superb, yet its ability to welcome a diverse group of students,of all cultures and faiths is outstanding. I am extremely proud to be a Lancer! Go C/O 2005

I am a current Senior at Bishop Amat High School. I feel that Amat is making me well-prepared for college with many college-prep classes and an EXTREMELY supportive faculty and staff. At the same time I am able to do a variety of extracurricular activities. At a school like Amat parents are very involved in the lives of their children and the support has continues to grow since my brothers graduated from there in 93, 95, 97, and 04.

great teacher, and great learning atmosphere. I would greatly recommend this school to anyone.

This school is good for students who want to look good on their college applications, but still want to enjoy their high school years.

My three children graduated from Amat. They all went on to prestigious universities but feel that they were not adequately prepared for college level courses. Amat simply does not offer classes challenging enough; and for that matter, they are less challenging than those offered at my childrens' public school alternative. Amat is a school you would send your children to for safety reasons...to shelter them from experiencing the great numbers of troubled kids out there today.

I have had two children graduate from Bishop Amat with very positive experiences. Both were accepted at prestigious universities where they both felt that the education they received prepared them extremely well for the rigors of their collegiate academics. Because of these positive experiences, we have enrolled our other two children at the school as well.

My son is a very good student and he was limited to the amount of Honors of AP classes that he wanted to take. This was due to the lack of periods that the classes are given, and i believe that one of the improvements that can be made is to provide the classes in different periods to satisfy the students level of knowledge.
