Alverno High School Reviews

This school is small and personable. It meets the students at their level and is very inclusive.

Alverno provides a superior environment for teen age girls. The teachers and staff are wonderful and truly care about their students. My daughter has blossomed into a lovely, responsible individual who loves her school, her friends and the teachers.

I'm an alumnus of Alverno. I must say, it was a tough school academically! I was more than prepared for college. Unfortunately, I then attended PCC and a state university - Alverno had prepared me for so much more. College was almost like taking a step backward. I was getting Bs and Cs studying my brains out in high school...yet flew through college with As! How sad these public colleges are set up for mediocrity.

I'm a recent graduate of this school and I can say wholeheartedly that it is worth the expense to send your daughter to this institution. The faculty and staff are very attentive to the students' needs, and the administrative staff in particular is always accessible to both parents and students. The calibre of the Campus Ministry, Athletics, and AP programs is superior. I will say though, that there is room for improvement in the departments of math and science; the shuffling of staff every year doesn't help to keep cohesion within the departments and students get discouraged when there is a new teacher every year for the same subjects. However, I am currently a student at UCLA and I feel that I was definitely prepared academically, socially, and spiritually because of my time at Alverno.

Incredible school, probably the best in the area. Teachers are involved and really want the best for your daughters, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved with. 100% recommended!

Very expensive for the quality of education provided.

Well balanced between academics and extra-curriculars; many opportunities for girls. Great experience overall; well worth the expense.

My daughter is a senior at Alverno and we continue to be very pleased with the calibur of the education. Academically the faculty is very strong, many have been there several years, and the core subjects of math, english, language and science are outstanding. My daughter is involved in so many activities, from choir to yearbook, from drama to Christian service, that the bigger issue is having free time. But the school overs so many opportunities for girls to lead and be involved, that girls do like to stay active. The Principal attends countless events for the students and is readily accessible for parents. Her experience and dedication are visible in so many resources and commitments she brings to the school. The AP classes are another strong area, and I am particularly pleased with the school's ability to engage and promote student talent. It is a great experience.

This is a wonderful school for young women. My daughter attended Alverno kicking and screaming at first, by the time she graduated she was wonderfully articulate, confident and secure in her ability to succeed at the university level. She graduated this year from the University of San Francisco and is continuing her education by pursuing her PhD in Philosophy. I know for certain it is the skills, and support she gained at Alverno that not only made her enthusiastic about her education but gave her the skills to succeed.

This school taught me so much and I recommend any parent to send their daughter to this school. The school pushes their students to achieve their very best. I feel if I graduated from here, anyone can just as long as they put their effort and their mind to it.
