The community is awesome! It's like a private school except that it has great diversity and it is free. My children are very happy. It is a creative place where academic excellence is also stressed. We are so so grateful to be there.

Without a doubt the best school in Los Angeles. I have never seen so many children be so happy to go to school as I have at Larchmont. My child loves her teachers and has great friends. She enjoys sharing with us all the great things she learns on a day to day basis. I highly recommend this school to everyone!!!

Larchmont Charter is a wonderful school that has stood by its mission of building a truly exceptional, socio-economically diverse NEIGHBORHOOD school. As a parent with two children thriving there, I am so proud of what we have accomplished in four short years. This is an exceptional community school--and a wonderful group of caring families!

My children shone the moment they got to this remarkable school . . . they were getting a bit tarnished at their expensive private school, and Larchmont Charter made them interested in learning all over again! Love my school.
This review was posted by a parent.

Because it was started from scratch five years ago, and we took our kids our of a very old and established private school and found that this one was even more caring and attentive to our kids, even more inspiring in all aspects of learning, and because 30 percent of the kids are on the federal lunch program, the school is truly elevating the standards of education for rich kids and poor kids alike. It is what every school, public or private, should be!

I think what makes Larchmont special isn't just the great teachers, the facilities or the parents. The children at this school are really special. I've never met so many kids, from varying socio-economic families, that can share with each other and resolve conflicts by open communication and negotiation instead of hostility. Most schools, with the help of active parents, can teach reading, writing and arithmetic but Larchmont is helping my children become good citizens.

I pulled my child out of private school to attend Larchmont Charter School, and I couldn't be happier. It is an asset to the communtiy.

LCS fosters a deep love of knowledge from K all the way through 6th grade. My children come home and love to research a subject. They ask interesting questions, are multi-level thinkers, and love to explore ideas, concepts, and all of their subjects. I think they will take this with them into middle-school and eventually will use it to become successful in college and beyond. I love seeing them so interested in the world!

My have a 7 year old son with High Functioning Autism. The Larchmont Charter School has gone out of it's way from day one to include our son, care for our son, teach him and guide him in a loving and nurturing way. We couldn't ask for a better group of teachers and parents to have in our son's life. We are so grateful for all that they have done for him and us as a family.

Larchmont Charter is great on so many levels, but one of the most important is the fact that it gives students a lifetime love of learning. The teachers, TA's, adminstration, board and parents all come together to help create one of the best learning environments I've ever encountered. It's the best school ever!

Our school uses the best methodsa to acheive very high scorees and privides enrichment classe slike PE, Music, Art, Gardening andYoga, every day at least an hour each day. The project based curriculum insures kids actually learn the subjects, not just how to take tests. We love Larchmont!

The teaching philosophy really allows the children the opportunity for exploration. They learn through hands-on experience. It is a very nurturing and safe place for the children to grow up, and a great school community for their families.

The teachers are so involved with the curriculum development, integration with community and just love the kids. They are enthusiastic about teaching and it promotes the love of learning with the kids.

LCS is a wonderfully diverse school with an active, motivated parent body that works hard to support the school. The school has managed to keep class size small, teachers aides in the classrooms and a full slate of enrichment programs, despite severe budget cuts.

Larchmont Charter has fantastic families and teachers. What a great community to be a part of.

I, too, disagree with the one star rating. The new principal gave a wonderful intro to the children on the first day of school. This is my second year at LCS and we're more excited than ever about the prospect of another year here. My children came home from third and fifth grades excited about learning. They both came from a very traditional, rigorous school and did excellently on their test scores. Bravo LCS -- it's a work-in-progress on some fronts, but the overall quality of teaching and relaxed, fun atmosphere for the children overrides all the other stuff.

With a new principal, the school is off to a rocky start. Once again, the parents are asked to participate over and beyond and yet, there is a disconnect in communication about the needs and direction of real learning. The primary center is still chaotic and unsafe. If it does not level out pretty quick, i am afraid we will have to say 'good by'
This review was posted by a parent.

To the parent who posted a single star and thinks that school got off to a rocky start, please think about what you can do to facilitate better communication at the school. Our API scores are higher all around this year and in our 5 years, there has never been more emphasis on the quality of education our students are receiving. Our new principal is receptive and aware of the challenges we have faced and is really focused on making sure our students get the best education possible, despite massive budget cuts -- if you can't bring something positive to the school, perhaps it is time to say 'goodbye.'

Our daughter just finished her first year at LCS (she was in Kindergarten and will now be moving into 1st grade). We are thrilled beyond belief with the education she is receiving at this Charter School. She loves to learn and is already reading at a 2nd grade level and is EXTREMELY interested in math, which I have to admit astounds me because I never in a million years thought a subject like math would interest her. I guess it's the way they teach it at LCS that has her so excited about it. The teachers care deeply about the kids and it shows in the enthusiasm they bring to the classrooms every day. Also, the types of questions my daughter asks me about complex subjects are an obvious extension of the way the teachers are teaching the children to think about the world around them. Bravo LCS!

Our daughter has been a student at Larchmont for 3 years. We could not be happier with the school academically. She is in second grade and is reading two years above her grade level. She is constantly challenging herself to read more complex books. When I drive her to school we often do pretend spelling bees,. When I pick her up she will tell me about her math work, recapping word problems she's had, or going over addition or multiplication problems with me. When she was born, one of our greatest hopes for her would be that she would love learning. Larchmont has proven to be just the place to nurture this; we never have to push or prod her. Whatever they are doing there, she genuinely seems to love her education. The parents are quite involved with volunteering at the school, which sends a great message to the kids.

We moved our child to LCS this year, when 24 spots opened in the 4th grade. It has been a huge adjustment. We were very excited about placing our child in a constructivist learning environment, after spending years in a more traditional setting, but unfortunately have not witnessed the level of constructivism we had hoped for. California budget cuts caused staff layoffs, including teachers, teaching assistants and specialists. Parents spend the entire year fundraising and volunteering 50 - 75 hours per family to ensure the school can operate, since as a charter school it is only partially funded by the state. For the most part, the teachers and families are great, but it is a struggle being at a school that is so understaffed and underfunded, and at times chaotic and disorganized.

After spending 4 years at an over priced private school, we were concerned that the move to a free school would compromise our son s education experience. We thought, You get what you pay for. We braced ourselves for what would come. Instead, it ended up being the best education decision we ever made. Academically, socially, athletically and artistically, he is thriving way beyond what he was previously. Hard to imagine that a school that offers so much could possibly be free! We have recommended friends from the over priced school, who have had the same experience that we ve had. No wonder the waiting list to enroll is so long. Thank you Larchmont Charter School.

We love Larchmont Charter. Charter schools aren't for everyone. You have to be open to change and willing to give your own time to the school, but accepting those things fosters a greater involvement in your child's education. All this parent involvement creates a real sense of community and ownership that very unique in a public school. The teachers are very passionate and seem to really care about their students. Yes, there have been bumps in the road and there will be many more, I'm sure. But the overall experience has been a great one.

I moved my daughter from a traditional private school which had extremely high academic standards. My older daughter had been through this school also so I was in the unique position of comparing 'apples for apples'. Larchmont Charter is not only comparable but it achieves its goals through a dedicated, vibrant, highly qualified staff. My daughter has gone from loathing math, and not having an option to approach it from a different perspective,(her old school) to loving math. With Larchmont Charter she scored 100 percent in two of her math modules in the state tests. That is remarkable. But there is more. She is well above grade level in reading and comprehension and is still encouraged to excel in this area. For math she started in a group that was struggling but with the love and dedication of the teachers she 'gets it' now and is doing brilliantly. I love LCS!

I am happy I transferred my child to Larchmont. Although his educational foundation is traditional, he has flourished in a constructivist environment. He loves the hands-on experiences. He loves his friends. I've also developed great relationships with other parents. The school staff is also extraordinary.

I have a child in kindergarten and we are thrilled with this school. I wish I were 5 and could go back to school. We love the Primary Center (K/1) in West Hollywood and have been really impressed with the teachers, atmosphere & parental involvement. We feel very lucky to be part of this amazing community!

Still in its infancy, only its 4th year of existance, Larchmont Charter is an amazing school. I toured over a dozen elementary schools, and no where were they using the cutting edge literacy and writing curricula used at Larchmont. The new reggio-based primary center is a warm nurturing nest for their mixed age K/1 classes. The teachers are phenomenal.

LCS is an awesome school! As a founding parent, we're so happy to see the dream of this school realized. Our 3rd grader enjoys attending and we enjoy the benefits of the community (great teachers, admin. staff, enrichment, location, curriculum and philosophy). Truly an example of what free, public education should be for all children in Los Angeles.

This school is really an amazing place! The teachers, principal, staff & parents are all totally dedicated to creating a one of a kind learning environement. It's the type of education that makes kids excited about learning. One of the things I like most about it is it's socio-economic diversity. I think the kids gain a lot by learning side-by-side kids from all different backgrounds.

Larchmont Charter School is an amazing school. It offers enrichment classes every week such as art, music, physical education, swimming as well as all of the academic classes . The teachers are incredible. The campus is beautiful. My children are so fortunate and privileged to be part of this community and wake up excited to go to school each day. I can't say enough good things about this school and the education they are receiving. We are so grateful to be a part of it.

This school provides a lot of academic support. The teachers are wonderful when it comes to your childs learning they are very involve and always willing to help. The enrichment programs are great, there are a variety of enrichment activities. And PE is offered more than once a week for al classes. Parental involvement is great anywhere you look you will see parents helping out. Which leads to the teachers being able to concentrate more on their students.
