John Muir Middle School Reviews

The comment made by 'parent' on August 13, 2009 is questionable. The school is very good. Choir program is one of the best in the state. They encourage children to be very involved and take pride in themselves, their school and their education.

I think that this school is almost like a second home. There is a low rate of intolerance and hate.

We recently moved here from a very high performing school. I am so much more pleased with the education my children are getting at John Muir despite the 100 point higher API rating at their old school. John Muir is teaching my kids to think. It is not a scarf and barf the info on a test type of teaching. The teachers are high tech, very well educated, organized and energetic. There is a 'can do' positive attitude. What I noticed immeidately, was how upbeat and happy the teachers and staff seem to be. Walk in and people are smiling and pleasant. My children have made friends and they tell me how happy they are there. I am thrilled we made the move to Burbank as my children are truly blooming.

I am very pleased with the academics, teachers the programs John Muir offers. My son likes his environment, his classses, classmates and teachers. Finally, he has been performing well and receiving very good grades.

Muir once was a great school, over the years much has changed. One very large change that I believe impacted the school is the relatively new administration. The current principal is very young and not as experienced as past principals. His youth shows as he hasn t established very strong people skills. A school without strong leadership is a school without guidance. The lack of guidance from the administration shows by the way the parents and students are treated. All we can hope for is change at this school to help restore the good reputation it once had. With better leadership the teachers would respect the students and parents. And the students and parents in turn would respect the teachers and administration. I don t believe this school currently deserves a rating of 9, but it could with a few changes.

This has been my child's first year in Muir Middle School. We moved from out of the area and chose Burbank because of it's schools. My child has made many friends and loves school. The Principal is EXCELLENT! Many of the teachers are outstanding. Academics are first rate. Good PE program...5 days a week! Wonderful bunch in the PTA who support all of the kids and the faculty. All in all a great school with good people.

Muir Middle School is an above average public school. The current administration is excellent (Principal and 3 Assistant Principals). Many teachers are excellent and some not so good. Academic program is excellent. School facilities are average and could use many improvements. Discipline is fair and evenly distributed but hampered by public school guidelines - many disruptive students continue to be returned to campus. Some teachers are unable to handle disruptive students. Drama and choir programs are outstanding. Good physical education program. Overall, Muir is a good choice to send your middle school student as long as parents stay very involved and communicate with the school on a constant basis.

John Muir is a great school! The focus is on the kids both from school staff and PTA. Academically the students are challenged and excel and socially the staff ensures that they are safe and feel respected. This is a pivotal age for the students development and I love the way they are treated.

The acadimic is good. The extracurricluar activites are excellent. And level of parental involment is good. I personally, as a student, very much enjoyed it my first year. I felt like a belonged and the faculty and staff are caring and are like your friends. The food is very good, especially their cookies.

I moved to this school district because of John Muir and Burbank High. The quality with both of these schools surpass that of a private school. What more could I ask for.

I have found the majority of the teachers at JMMS to be very involved and caring. There are several that are involved in extra-curricular activies and you can tell that the students are their first priority. Most teachers I found were also willing to give extra credit for outside learning opportunities. I can speak highly of most of the administative staff at the school. However, I had one of the VPs respond to a message I left (not knowing me or why I was calling) asking me to call back in two weeks if I could because she was too busy with state mandated testing.
